SBL 2004, WEEK 8 JULY 17 HORSECOCK DOWNS THE SHORT BUS ALL-STARS 13 XDEATHX/WSAC 15 week 8 of the sbl season kicked off with a game with gigantic playoff implications as teddy ballgame and his all-stars collided with former protege jon biddle's smokers. ted's 4 of 11 game spelled doom for his squad, and the loss put a huge damper on the short bus playoff hopes. conversely, jon biddle was the catylyst for his squad, hitting 9 of 13 shots with 6 rbi and 6 double plays as xdeathx took a comanding two game lead for the fourth and final playoff spot. after an intense laqdder scrum, won by xdeathx, the all-stars plated three in the top of the first as chris mclaughlin stroked two run-scoring singles. xdeathx answered right back, scoring three of their own before a bill weisberg double play slowed the rally. over the next three innings, the defenses took over. despite 3 double plays by biddle, the all-stars managed to cross the plate twice more, and by holding x to one hit over that span, built a 5-3 lead. in the fifth, both offenses got untracked. a three-run top for the blue shirts was highlighted by two weisberg triples. the smokers countered with a 5 run attack to knot the score at 8 thanks to a pair of two-run jacks by rookie of the year favorite billy picciotto. by the 8th inning, the smoker rally had built them a 13-8 lead. mr. ballgame, however, was not about to let his playoff hopes fade quietly into the shit-smelling air, and all three of the all-stars hit homers to bring them back into another tie, the fifth of the game. but it was jon biddle who had the last laugh in the battle of former miracles, as his run scoring single in the bottom of the eighth gave his squad the lead once again. a picciotto trip one batter later brought in biddle and in the bottom of the ninth, jon's 6th and final d.p. of the game sealed the deal for x. in a winning effort, biddle was aided by picciatto's 2 homer, 6 rbi performance, while dank elly jit 7 fo 13 shots and tipped in 2 double plays. for the losers, mclaughlin hit 7 of 12, drove in 6 and hit two homeruns. weisberg contributed 3 double plays and five rbi. HOOSIER DADDY 20 THE SERBIAN JEW DOUBLE BLUFFS 21 even the blatantly biased officiating of the obviously jealous billy weisberg couldn't keep the double bluffs from their 14th straight win and exacting another measure of revenge on hoosier daddy, the only team to beat them in 2004. with the double bluffs looking to 12-run the youngsters in the 5th inning, weisberg had to make a move. when 4'5, 110 lb. seth salcedo of hoosier daddy attacked double bluff heatthrob nate tomko (totally unprovoked, mind you), weisberg jewed tomko straight into the penalty box, citing "excessive force" in tomko's defending himself from salcedo's assault. with tomko pouting in the sin bin, hoosier daddy made their second monumental comeback in as many weeks, battling from 14 down to 1 up heading into the double bluff half of the 8th. during the daddy comeback, which consisted of 5-run innnings in the 6th, seventh and eighth, bryan frankovich and brandon mckendry combined for a staggering 10 homers and all 15 runs batted in. with their backs to the wall and their spititual leader being held captive by a dictator of a referee, the bluffs looked to their rock, shelly goodpastor, the stellar rookie katie kelly, and the seasoned veteran jon olsavsky. all three delivered for extra-base hits, and the bluffs were able to cross twice to break their scoreless streak and regain the lead. when tomko emerged from the box in the ninth, he quickly tipped in a mckendry errant homer for a double play, and one frankovich miss later ended the travishamockery of a game. burgleflickle. goodpastor finished up with 8 hits in 12 at-bats with 5 rbi. tomko collected 9 hits in 10 plate appearances with 5 homers and 10 rbi with 5 double plays. jon olsavsky nailed 7 of 12 with a homer and 4 driven in with a psyche out and a pair of double plays. for hoosier daddy, who monentarily slipped beneath donkey punch for third in the sbl, mckendry nailed 6 homers and drove in 15. frankovich and mike moroco each hit 8 of 12, with the former bringing in 4 runs. weisberg had to be escorted from the playing area by armed security following the contest as the dozens of nate tomko fans showered him with apple cores, dead fish, insults, nazi propaganda and urine. THE SERBIAN JEW DOUBLE BLUFFS 14 PJ & THE LADIES 2 (6 INNINGS) nate tomko's walk-off grand slam with no outs in the bottom of the 6th put an early end to this bitch-slapping of an sbl contest and shot the bluffs to their 15 consecutive win. sparing all the brutal details of the bout, the bluffs took and early 7-0 lead before the ladies scored their first, second and only runs in the top of the thirdass big rando knight and the newly-acquired sean hood hit run-scoring extra base hits. then the bluffs scored a bundle more and the ladies did not. shelly goodpastor had the second perfect game of her career, hitting all 7 of her shots with 5 runs batted in. and nobody really seemed to notice, cause she really never misses shots. jon olsavsky tipped in a pair of double plays and drove in three, and tomko hit 3 of 3 shots with 2 homers and 5 runs batted in. for the losers, who fell to the sbl basement, big rando drove ina run and tipped in 2 double plays. THE SHORT BUS-ALL-STARS OVER TEAM DONKEY PUNCH BY FORFEIT PJ & THE LADIES OVER TEAM DONKEY PUNCH BY FORFEIT due to jared clayton's squad failing to produce more than one player by 5:30 for the second consecutive week with absolutely no warning/courtesy phone call, the sbl board of director unanimously voted for punch to forfeit their games for the week. the board does, however, wish to extend in sympathies to jamie moroco, the only one on the team that comes on time every week, then doesn't take off the second her team is done playing. we need to have more jamie moroco's on this team, and in the league in general. HOOSIER DADDY 9 XDEATHX/WSAC 23 (6 INNINGS) a dank elly grand slam led off the game for sdeathx, and the smokers never looked back in their 6-inning trouncing of a hoosier daddy squad who has seemingly had their number all year. when the big xdeathx first was all said and done, they had plated nine runs and collected 6 hits, including two billy picciotto 2-run homers. hoosier daddy got on the borad with 3 ion the second, highlighted by bryan frankovich's 5th homer of the day. frank it another solo shot in the 3rd to cut the lead to 5. the black shirt offense, however, was not going to be denied. picciotto rained a near-record 7 homers in 9 attempts, driving in 13 runs. he didn't do it alone, as captain jon biddle lso nailed 7 of 9 and drove in 3, and dank continued to drop through triples, 6 in all. an 8-run 5th in which x hit 9 straight shots gave the smokers their 23-9 cushion, and a biddle double play in the top of the 6th ended hoosier daddy's hopes of another comeback loss and billy picciotto's hopes of a new sbl homerun record. for hoosier daddy, losers of 3 of 4, frankovich finished with 4 homers and 8 rbi. both he and seth salcedo hit 5 of 8 shots. next |
