HOOSIER DADDY           20
TEAM DONKEY PUNCH  6 (8 INNINGS)
the second half of the sbl's fourth season kicked off with two of the sbl's elite teams squaring up for what looked to be a shootout.  unfortunately, donkey punch was playing without three of it's biggest bullets as jared clayton, elysa farrell and kurt rodemoyer where nowhere to be found, and hoosier daddy took advantage to pull off a big win.
the scoring came early and often for the sbl's youngest team as hoosier daddy crossed the plate three times in the top of the first, seven times in the second, and 5 in the third to create a 15-1 lead they would never relinquish.
bryan frankovich, quoted as saying it was "frankovich's day" as he rounded second in that big second stanza, lived up to his self-inflating announcement, hitting a 2-run shot in his next at-bat, then tipping in a mckendry missed homer for a 3-run assist in the third.
(note to frankovich anti-fans: he'd get his comeuppance later)
by the time donkey punch found their rythym, scoring 5 in the 5th highlighted by the stellar play of justin "fred" shaffer in his return to sbl action, the game was already out of hand.   hoosier then tallied a few more runs in the 8th to secure the 12-run mercy win.
for the winners, who got support from all three players, brandon mckendry hit 10 of 17 shots with 2 homers, 10 runs batted in and 5 double plays.  both frankovich and mikey moroco nailed 9 of 17 shots.
for donkey punch, losers of their second in a row, shaffer ended the game with 5 hits in 9 at-bats with a homer, 5 rbi an assist and a pair of double plays.

XDEATHX/WSAC                         12
THE SHORT BUS ALL-STARS  13
homerun derby champion lee nespor, on his home court, calmly swished through a two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give his short bus all-stars a huge win over xdeathx.
the game started heavily in favor of short bus.  the smokers were playing without rookie of the year candidate billy picciotto and kip corbett, and teddy's blue shirts jumped all over thier weakened opponents.
teddy ballgame hit a two run homer in the first. and his head swelled.
then teddy ballgame hit a solo shot in the second, and his head swelled a little more.
in the third, ted hit a leadoff solo homerun.  the crowd got into it.  ted's head got bigger.
later that inning, billy weisberg, in a move that nearly cost his team the game, tipped in a weisberg miss for an assist and gilliland had 4 homers in three innings.  visions of the sbl record book flashed in his chubby eyes.
with the massive one chucking homers in every at bat for the next 4 innings, short bus failed to score.  in fact, he was so caught up in shooting another homerun in the 5th that he got a dumb thing even tho everyone on his team was telling him it wasn't his turn to shoot.
xdeathx, meanwhile, had apparantly kidnapped shelly goodpastor from the doube bluffs, put her in an anne carine costume, and stormed back.  carine/goodpastor didn't do it alone, and dank elly hit two-run homers in both the 7th and 8th to help his team actually earn a one-run lead heading into the bottom of the ninth, setting up leebone nespor's heroics.
for the losers, carine hit 8 of 11 with 4 rbi.  elly collected 6 rbi and jon biddle had another ho-him 6 double play, 7 hit outing.
gilliland totaled 5 homers all told with 7 rbi.  nespor ended with 3 longballs and 6 runs batted in, while bill weisberg had 2 double plays and an assist to go with his 9 hits.

TEAM DONKEY PUNCH                          12
THE SERBIAN JEW DOUBLE BLUFFS  15
what had been billed as the first clash of the two sbl titans was played by two teams who barely resembled their full-strength selves as donkey punch once again suited up without three of their starters and the bluffs couldn't produce leadoff hitter extraordinaire shelly goodpastor or former sbl mvp jon olsavsky.
the bluffs were the far deeper team however, and were able to hold off a late run by donkey punch to get the big win and extend their league lead to 3.5 games.
matt mcclelland's superteam came out swinging, hitting 10 of their first 11 hits before a fred shaffer double play closed the floodgates after the bluffs had established a 7-2 lead.  in that huge first, nate tomko drilled a 3-run homer and added an assist.
in the second, the bluffs continued to dominate, crossing 5 more times as tomko added 2 more homeruns.  seemigly taking the game so early, the bluffs went to their bench after 3 with a 12-3 lead.
donkey punch scratched and clawed their way back into the game, over the final 6 innings, but just couldn't muster enough runs to knock off the purple people eaters.  a fred shaffer2-run homer in the ninth capped the scoring for punch.
for the bluffs, who extended their winning streak to 10, tomko finished up with a 7 for 11 day with 3 homers and ten runs batted in.  aryn christman hit 4 of 5 shots off the bench, while mcclelland contributed 6 hits and 4 double plays.
for donkey punch, on a three-game slide, shaffer hit in 10 of 13 at-bats with 10 runs batted in and four double plays.

PJ & THE LADIES  12
JUKEBOX HERO     7
playing on their home surface (slanted gravel topped with tar) against a team on their level (lots of girls), the ladies dominated a game they had to win to stay in the playoff picture.
a pj nespor assist on a rando knight missed homer in the second gave the ladies in red (chris deburgh reference) an early 3-run lead.  they quickly squandered that, however, as jbh came right back with 6 straight hits in the 3rd, the last being a sean hodd grand slam that gave danielle hennon's charges a 5-3 lead.
jukebox, of course, handed the lead right back to their bottom-of-the-pack counterparts, who scored three in their very next at bat on the shoulders of rando knight's 2-run homer.
the theme continued in the 5th, and jukebox was able to regain the lead thanks to three straight hits by hennon, moroco and fred shaffer.
the lead finally found it's resting place in the unsteady hands of the ladies in the 7th when a lenny crist solo shot gave pj & co. an 8-7 lead.  jukebox, exhausted from all the lead-trading, couldn't put another runner across the dish.
for the heroes, sean hood totaled 5 rbi and fred shaffer tipped in 5 double plays.
the ladies were led by the play of their namesake, as  rod thunder nespor hit 6 of 12 with 4 d.p.'s and an assist.  rando knight drove in 7 with 3 homers.

XDEATHX/WSAC      5
HOOSIER DADDY  11
xdeathx/wsac, looking to prey on two lesser teams and get themselves back into the ranks of the sbl's elite, had their asses handed to them for the second time in as many games and finished of their week battered, bruised, and losers of both of their games.
hoosier daddy did most of their scoring in the middle innings, crossing the plate twice in the third, thrice in the 4th and 5 times in the fifth without ever hitting a shot beyond the double line.
the smokers, conversely, were able to string together consecutive hits only three times all game, and paid as they couldn't manage more than one run in any inning.
bryan frankovich paved the way for his team with 9 hits in 13 at-bats with 4 double plays.  brandon mckendry drove in 5.
for xdeathx, jon biddle was the only player of note, hitting 6 of 8 with an assist, a psyche out and 3 double plays.
