PJ & THE LADIES                        8
THE SHORT BUS ALL-STARS  9 (10 INNINGS)
the game of the sbl week turned out to be the one played between two teams most in the sbl had already written off.
the all-stars, coming off a big win against xdeathx looked to make it two straight against the ladies.  a win by either team would thrust them right back into the playoff mix thanks to the poor day put on by x, and both teams played as if that final playoff spor was up for grabs.
the ladies drew first blood after 2 double play-laden innings when lenny crist touched homer plate after being driven in by pj nespor's two-out single.  short bus screamed right back in the fourth, as lee nespor, ted gilliland and bill weisberg hit 5 straight singles or triples, then capped off their 6-run inning with a l.nespor homerun.
after dropping another lone run in the fifth, the all-stars were able to get another run in each of the next 3 innings to take an 8-2 lead after 7.
in the eighth, the ladies finally got the big inning they had been looking for, and a homerun by pj nespor sandwiched between two big rando knight longballs knotted the game at 8 heading to the ninth.
lenny crist led off the top of the ninth with a double, but a weisberg double play snuffed out any chance of the ladies ending it in regulation.  in the home half of the 9th, big rando got a d.p. tip of his own, sending the game into bonus time.
the ladies posted an inning identical to the previous as crist's double led things off, and weisberg's double play put things away.
with a chance to win the game for his team again, lee nespor opted to hit a leadoff triple in the bottom of the tenth, and it paid off big as ted gilliland singled him home seconds later to give short bus their second straight win.
for the victorious victors, both lee nespor and gilliland collected identical 5 for 12, 4 rbi lines.
for the ladies, crist gathered 6 hits while big rando knight drove in 5 with 2 homers.  phil nespor tipped in 3 double plays.

HOOSIER DADDY                                    15
THE SERBIAN JEW DOUBLE BLUFFS  27 (7 INNINGS)
while everyone was expecting donkey punch/double bluffs to be the battle for first in week 6, it was hoosier daddy he looked to gain the second spot and a 2-0 tiebreaker over the league-leading bluffs.  the sj2b, meanwhile, had motivation of their own:  in addition to tying the sbl consecutive win record with a "V", they finally had an oppurtunity to avenge their only loss of the season.
it was a slugfest from the beginning.  h.d. was able to score 4 in the top of the first, then hold the bluffs to three, proving they could hang in there.  the sj2b crossed twice more in the second, then clamped down the defense to hold h.d. scoreless and take a 5-4 lead after 3.
the air getting thick, nate tomko made a bad decision and shoved frankovich to the ground after being hammered on a double play attempt in the fourth, and was sent to the penalty box by referee jon biddle.  with tomko in the sin bin, hoosier was able to wrangle away the lead on the strenght of back-to-back homers by mike moroco and brandon mckendry, and the youngster led 10-8 after 5.
when tomko emerged form the box he did so in big fashion, nailing 4 straight shots, the last three of which were three-run homers.  by the time the dust settled in the fifth, the purple people eaters had scored 9 times and took a 17-10 lead.
hoosier was able to score periodically over the next few innings, but couldn't put any major dents in the armor of the bluffs.  then, getting tired of allowing the children to extend the game, the bluffs hit 9 shots in a row without an out in the 7th, and a ben smith 2-run jack gave them a 12-run cushion for the hard-fought win.
tomko hit 9 of 12 shots with 4 homers and 14 runs batted in with an assist and 5 double plays to pace the bluffs (12-1).  matt mcclelland hit 6 of 7 with 3 rbi and katei kelly more than filled the void left by shelly goodpastor's abscence with a 10 for 12 performance.  smith drove in 6.
for hoosier daddy (8-5), frankovich hit 9 shots and drove in 6 with 3 double plays.  moroco hit in 7 at-bats.

TEAM DONKEY PUNCH  25
JUKEBOX HERO                14
tho jukebox hero was able to score more runs than they had managed ina ny game yet this season, donkey punch (fueled by the fear of having to explain to jared clayton how they lost all 3, no doubt) were able to erupt offensively as they've been known to do from time to time and notch a big win.
tho they played well all game, team donkey punch found themselves clingling to a 16-11 lead after 8 innings against a surging her squad.  in the ninth, however, they managed to hit 8 of their first 9 to extend the lead to 25-11.  back to back homers by shaffer and jamie moroco closed out the scoring for d.p.
jukebox made a small run at the lead thanks to ben smith's 2-run homer, but three was all they could manage in the final frame.
for donkey punch, justin shaffer hit 9 of 15 with a homer and 7 rbi.  moroco hit 10 of 15 with 8 rbi and a homer, and elysa farrell hit 13 of 15 and drove in 7.  jason biddle coerced 2 psyche-outs.
in a losing effort, aryn christman hit in 4 of 6 at-bats and jason betts drew 3 psyche-outs to keep the game close.  for 8 innings, anyway.
donkey punch climbed to 8-5 and back into second in the league.  jukebox finds themselves alone in the basement at 3-10 and riding a 3-game losing streak.
