Interview With Terry Shernisky

The Friday Hangover: How do you feel about being on a team with Kip Corbett, Tony Mastrian, and Greg Lackey?

Terry Shernisky: Baseketball is fun I am going to enjoy it no matter who is on my team…Greg I have known since first grade or so and it will be fun to play along side him. I hope to bring out the true lackey in him and bolster his psyche out stats from the past seasons. “Tony” Mastrian I do not know, however I do know plenty of them, Pat, Leah, Nick, and they are all excellent basketball players so I expect big things from this highly touted rookie. Finally captain Kip…I assume this will be a relaxed atmosphere with Kip at the helm and will ultimately help out the team along with my personal stats…kip still is in charge of those right?

FH: What type of players would you like to see drafted on your team this Sunday? Is there anyone specific?

TS: As far as “type” of players I would love to see a scrummer drafted. Hopefully Tony is a beast because my 150 pound white ass has been the only scrummer on my team the past two years and it sucks. As for players Derek Lockovich laid back style would be a good fit for our team. Also, my sources tell me that Seth Salcedo will be back in the valley this summer and I would enjoy seeing him wearing my teams colors as Nate power bombs him into a trash can. Finally I suppose I would like to see my older brother on the team…he is no “Sherry” but he would be a decent scrummer and defensive player…

FH: What team(s) will pose the greatest threat to you becoming a two-time SBL champion?

TS: Not sure…I like how the teams are set up this year…I think there is a level playing field and the teams are set up for a extremely fun summer…I think the front runners are Frankovich’s team if his brother continues his play from last year, but I like Nate’s team as well. Nate’s team reminds me of the wet dream team, he has two solid hitters in front of him in Danielle and Katie. Someone will be on base every time Nate gets to bat and that equals bad things for the rest of the league.

FH: There was a lot of hype surrounding you before even stepping onto an SBL court. Describe your feelings when you first arrived on the scene two years ago.

TS: Feelings…I was dating Katie Kelly one of the few eye candies in the league I was scared shitless…let me describe the horrifying flashbacks I have to this day…I walk down Nate’s driveway and Katie keeps reminding me to be nice to Nate…this is key…the next thing I know I am scheduled to scrum PJ Nespor to start my first game…I think things could be worse and get ready to tackle PJ into the garage…whistle blows and I push PJ and run to the ball things seemed to be going well…then the “horn” having no idea what it means I bend down to pick up the ball and then the taste of cement is in my mouth as nate and rando lead the charge…I was punched, ball tapped, kicked, and humped for the next few minutes…finally I stand up and the sun disappears. Two big hand reach around me and I am in a Teddy ballgame bear hug…I prayed that he would not stumble and fall on top of me. Escaping with my life the rest of my rookie year was a breeze…it was all worth it however...since joining the league i have made a lot of new friends and had something to look forward to and a reason to call off of work.

FH: By the time the 2007 season starts, you will be halfway done with college. What are the chances that you may spend a summer away from the area for an internship and do you think you'll still be around after graduating?

TS: No chance of an internship and unlike most in mercer county I actually enjoy it there. Actually, my life goal is to become a coach so I have to first become a teacher. I guess I hope to teach somewhere in the area so yes I plan to be around after graduation.

FH: Favorite SBL moment?

TS: This is a tough question…winning the SBL championship was great but two things come to mind…the first occurred june 19, 2005…Danielle and I, along with minimal help from Will Williamson, were able to beat Analisa Goodthing 13-12. It was hilarious watching the rest of the league mock the losers. The Second was the never ending game last year with the Frankenbitches. I hit my first and only grand-slam in extra innings and the game was still tied. Nothing can compare to Frankovich’s face when he missed the game winning/losing homerun to end it.

FH: Name one player who you have yet to play with (and isn't on your team this year) who you would like to team up with someday.

TS: Even though I am 0-2 playing with Nate he is an obvious first choice. His competitiveness rubs off on his teammates and I think that would help my personal stats along with the fact that we would be unbeatable. Personality wise I would enjoy playing with Billy and Ben Smith along with my beer pong partner Mcclelland…we dominated the table at the keg race. (Editor's note: Not to mention that you two managed to go 2-2 against me and Aryn Christman! )

FH: Are there any darkhorse Player of the Year candidates?

TS: Of course…the race is who can catch Nate… I plan on a vast improvement personally from last years numbers and plan on giving him a run. Frankovich is still grumbling about last years vote and I have no idea why…Nate dominated…Christ I had better numbers in 6 less games and 43 less at bats…note to Frankovich you have to at least bat above .600 to get my vote…with that said he still has a good chance along with mike morocco, ben smith, billy and a few others.

FH: This may be hard to do (maybe a little site research) since you've only played two seasons, but try to compare your team last year to other great SBL teams of yesteryear.

TS: No site research needed…since I joined the league I have constantly viewed the web site and have a good appreciation and understanding of the early SBL years. While last years team is definitely not the greatest ever “double bluffs” it had many things in common with the elite teams. Chemistry is key in this league you have to be comfortable and confident with your teammates and know your role. Its just as important to have a solid leadoff hitter who can knock down singles consistently as a big rbi guy at the end of the lineup. Between Katie and Aryn I always batted with runners on base and if I was unable to connect Lee seemed to always knock down a homer to get things started.

FH: Ok, so what's up with picking Wright State over Pitt? Have you no faith? Don't you know that we wait until the second round or the Sweet 16 before choking?

TS: First off I would like to see Pitt win it all and believe they will give UCLA a good game in the sweet sixteen but the Facebook bracket it terrible you get tons of points for upsets and one point for the higher seed winning so I picked all upsets in the facebook bracket…on a side note I filled out 5 brackets and still have one perfect after day one…if I happen to win the 5,000 dollars for first place the SBL will have all knew equipment this year. (That would be so metal!)
