NASTY PILLOWWW 5 PJ & THE LADIES III 6 after ladies rando knight and lenny crist were given three inning penalites by referee nate tomko for refusing to stop the scrum as late as the middle of the second inning, nasty pillow was able to draw first blood on a pair of back-to-back homers in the third stanza by pillow captain olsavsky and hazlett. by the time the two penalized ladies emerged from the sin bin in the fifth, they found themselves in a 4-0 hole. moments before, jen gavala's 2-run triple had brought home hazlett and johnson to extend the pillow lead. once out of the box, rando was able to aid the ladies version of jon olsavsky who, up until that point, had collected all three of the ladies hits. that changed quickly as rando cut the lead in half by banging home a middle homer and scoring catdaddy. the ladies defense took over the contest in the middle innings, as joel lepak came off the bench to coerce back-to-back psyche outs from hazlett and johnson. olsavsky tipped in johnson's resulting miss for his third double play of the game to end the 7th with 2 pillow runners on board and contain the pillow lead at 2. after knight missed a solo homer for the first out of the ladies seventh, joel lepak, amidst cheers from the crowd of 12 on hand for this epic clash, lined up for the grand slam. after toeing the line repeatedly, he lofted his granny-shot 4-bagger nearly 50 feet into the tubbietronic superdrome rafters, bouncing off the roof of the garage and right back down through the hoop for 4-runs. as lepak trotted around the bases, he was mobbed by his teammates. but there was still game to be played, and pillow's olsavsky soon reminded the ladies of that with a double play. then, back in the field, olsavsky tipped in a sarah hazlett double with two-outs for a run-scoring assist to bring pillow back within one. but that was as close as they would come as the ladies defense held on to the slim lead for one final inning, earning a hard-fought win for nespor and co. lepak was the game's mvp with his 4 rbi, 2 psyche-out, 1 double play performance. knight added the final 2 rbi, while jon olsavsky tipped in a game-high 5 double plays for the ladies. for pillow, hazlett knocked in 2 and olsavsky tipped in 2 assists and a trifecta of d.p.'s BACK |
