TEAM CRACKALAKALAKAN  3

despite failing to gain a lead over the first 8 and a half innings of the contest, jon olsavsky's naacp was able to stave off the crack upset bid thanks in large part to the last-second heroics of sean hood.
a three on three scrum pitting all three naacp-ites against the martell brothers and big pants jesus was a wash, as olsavsky didn't have enough in what was essentially a 3-on-1 affair.
in a predicament they didn't often find themselves in back in their hayday- batting first- the naacp looked out of their element.  they went down in succession to start off the game, including ugly missed by both moroco and hood.
fortunately for the naacp, who had the patty's place crowd firmly behind them, crackalakalakan wasn't exactly lighting up the scoreboard, as they mustered only one hit, a josh flynn single, in their at-bat.
the naacp looked much better in their second at-bat, as moroco and olsavsky each collected no-out hits.  hood, however, was double played by ryan martell, and one batter later moroco's double attempt when in-and-out to keep the game scoreless.
in the bottom of the second, crackalaka finally put together some offense as ryan martell hit a two-run homer, bringing in mclaughlin with 2 outs before a runyan miss capped the inning.
the naacp continued to struggle, as they managed only one hit in each of their next four innings and failed to produce any runs.  team crack, meanwhile, frequently collected multiple hits in an inning, but were unable to plate runs thanks to a combination of untimely misses and jon olsavsky's stellar defense.
heading into the top of the sixth, the naacp looked desperate.  after a hood single was double played by mclaughlin in the first at-bat of the frame, moroco found her stroke, connecting on a two-out triple.  olsavsky moved in for the first time all game and plated moroco with a single.  hood, perhaps inspired by his first run of the game, drilled a double to knot the game at 2.  a moroco miss followed, but the naacp had gotten themselves back into the fray.
the tie was short lived, however, as ryan martell led off the bottom of the 6th with a solo homer.  once they regained the lead, crack seemed to go back on cruise control, as the next two hitters went down, mclughlins resulting in a olsavsky d.p.
the score remained at 3-2 into the top of the eighth, when jamie moroco crossed the plate with two outs, driven home by an olsavsky double.  hood, still struggling, missed a chip-shot single that would have given his team momentum.
but hood quickly made up for his poor shooting, tipping in a double play in the bottom of the eighth with one down and a crackhead on second and third to keep the game tied at 3.
in the top of the final inning, moroco led off with a double, but olsavsky's homer attempt went in and out before being tipped back in by tim mclaughlin.  then, with two outs, hood continued to impress late, driving thru a double of his own to give his team their fist lead of the game.  moroco's triple attempt went left for the third out.
in the bottom of the ninth, tim mclaughlin went for a triple to get things rolling, but when his shot went hard off the backboard, hood tipped in his second d.p. in as many innings, this time a spectacular left-handed put back as he was falling backwards.  the miss seemed to ignite a fire under olsavsky, who recorded his only psyche-out of the game on flynn to end the contest.
olsavsky tapped thru 5 double plays and hood collected 3 of his teams 4-runs on 2 timely hits.
ryan martell tipped in 3 double plays, hit a pair of homers, and was responsible for all three of his teams scores.
