THE WORLD  19
SHARON         13
the heavily-favored sharon all-stars were never really able to get their spectacular offense into gear, and as a result dropped their second straight to the world.
the world squad was captained by leadoff hitter matt mcclelland, who was followed in the batting order by 3-time all-stars bryan frankovich and jon biddle.  reigning all-star most valuable player mike moroco earner his first-ever start in the clean-up slot.  coming off the bench were 2-time star pat lackey and analisa goodthing captain ben elliott, who was making his first appearance.
the sharon squad was led by 5-time all-star captain nate tomko, who batted in the two-hole.  longtime sharon leadoff hitter shelley goodpastor made her third appearance, while rookies terry shernisky and jeff knight batted 3 and 4, respectively.  coming off the bench for the orange and black were 5-time all stars billy weisberg and jon olsavsky.
with daylight fading and much of the players thuroughly saturated from a long, rainy day of baseketball, the two powerhouse teamsexchanged leads over the first few innings.  biddle doubled in mcclelland in the top of the first to start the scoring, and a frankovich double play kept sharon off the board in the bottom of the frame.  the world then built on it's lead in the second, as mcclelland and moroco registered rbi singled.
trailing 3-0, the sharon squad found it's only real big offensive inning of the game in the bottom of the second.  terry shernisky led off the inning with a double, then capped the scoring 8 batters later with a 2-run homer that put sharon up 7-3.  sharon, however, would get only 2 runs in the next 6 innings, both in the sixth on back to back rbi doubles by tomko and shernisky.  in each inning 3 thru 8, sharon stranded at least one batter, and twice left the bases juiced.
the world, meanwhile, was just getting in stride.  they quickly regained the lead, tallying 9 of their own in the top of the fourth.  in the stanza, the world stars collected 9 hits, including 2-run homers from moroco and frankovich.
despite the double play tandem of shernisky and tomko combining to tap in 8 during the contest, the world just kept rolling.  already holding a 12-7 lead, they missed nary a beat when mcclelland and biddle left the game in exchange for elliott and lackey.  two more runs came in the fifth, with plackey and frankovich nailing rbi doubles, then 5 more in the top of the seventh thanks in part to another frankovich longball.  when the durst finally settled, the world found themselves holding a commanding 19-9 lead.
sharon headed to the plate for their final at-bat with sunlight a distant memory.  nevertheless, they still managed to make a game  of it, as the first five hitters of the inning reached base to pull within 6 before back-to-back misses by tomko and weisberg, the first being put back for a biddle double play, sealed the win for the world.
bryan frankovich earned mvp honors with an 8 for 12, 2 homer, 8 rbi, 4 double play outing.  matt mcclelland went 6 for 7 in relief, while biddle went 4 for 8 with 4 ribbies.
for sharon, terry shernisky shined in his first event, hitting 8 of 11 with a homer and 6 rbi to go with his 3 double plays.  tomko added 6 hits, 3 rbi and 5 double plays.  jon olsavsky came off the bench with a 3 for 5 performance.
since sharon won the first all-star game played under this format 27-14 in 2003, they have dropped 2 straight.   last year, the world prevailed 15-13.
