Mac’s Power Rankings (and more) 7/11/07 Edition
1) The Sparkling Wiggles (5)-
Many of you heard Nate make a case
for his Wiggles to me last week. It was just icing on the cake. Nobody who
knows baseketball could make a case for any other
team to sit in the number 1 spot. Using a combination of several players
hitting for a high average and setting the table for the greatest player in the
game, the Wiggles have announced to the league (and to Bryan Frankovich) that they are contenders now. They not only beat
a full strength Hot Fuzz team, but avenged two early season losses to the Nappy
Headed Hoes. While the final two weeks look to be rather
difficult, if Nate Tomko
continues his tear and Pat Lackey doesn’t sprint off to the
2) Hot Fuzz (1)-
Yes,
3) Kathleen Turner Overdrive (2)-
KTO may have lost a big game to Hot Fuzz last weekend, but they certainly have all the tools to pull it off come playoff time. While their next two weeks may be difficult, I would not be at all surprised if this is a team that upsets the number one seed in the playoffs, taking the hard way to the left eye.
4) The Nappy Headed Hoes (3)-
Certainly the most un-athletic team in the league, the Hoes have relied heavily on veteran savvy and experience to win the close games. What they have not shown is the consistent fire power to hang with the Tomkos and Sherniskys of the league. This team was built with the idea that Ben Smith would be that transcendent offensive machine that he was in last year’s playoffs. He hasn’t been. For them to be at number one by the end of the year, they need more fire power from the hairy Bavarian. Their week 10 contest with KTO may very well be what separates them and the number one seed in the playoffs.
5) PJ and the Ladies (6)-
PJ and company have their work cut out for them if they wish to get a bye in the first round of the playoffs. Billy is probably performing Jewish prayers for Clayton to show as we speak.
6) The Screamin’ Seagulls (8)-
How is this team so low? I’ll just go with the crowd and blame parity in the league and such. Frankly I hope this team rolls over everyone in the playoffs and throws the trophy into a lake while Frankovich dives in after it, ala Heavyweights. That would kick ass.
7) Team Double Stuff (4)-
How Aryn cannot get men’s men like Big Whitey, Dank and Biddle to show up each week is beyond me. Frankly I think they have a better shot in the playoffs with J-Fab, Aryn and Bob.
8) Jukebox Hero-
This team is much more awesome with Lenny than without him.
Extra Innings (a few random questions emailed)
1) Now that he’s been
humbled by Nate Tomko once
again, is this year over for Frankovich?
I don’t think so. Sure the contest was build as Tomko v. Frankovich, but what the pimpled one should realize by now is that he doesn’t have the lust for winning that Nate does. Once he simply tries to be the best Frankovich he can be (and has teammates who aren’t semi-moronic) he will finish the season on a high note.
2) Who would you like
to see suit up for Jukebox against the Hot Fuzz this week?
Katies Kelly and I were talking a few weeks back about how if Hot Fuzz were undefeated to this point, that a Double Bluff reunion would be possible, as the fuzz have no former Bluffs on the roster. While it has lost its luster now that they’ve lost and are fighting for a playoff spot, I’d still like to see it.
3) Who is your POTY to
this point in the season?
In my head I had Tomko, but after looking at the stats closely, I truly think it is a dead heat that will be decided in the last two weeks. While Nate’s numbers are a little more impressive, I could not believe that Terry had 120 RBIs while he doesn’t have a team member in the top 15 in batting average. That may be the most impressive statistic I have ever seen…not to mention he’s batting .674 while never shooting anything inside the triple line.
4) Pick a sleeper to
win the Left eye this year.
PJ and the Ladies. The other teams you could really
consider sleepers are PJ and L, Double Stuff, and the Seagulls. Out of those
teams, the Ladies have the experience and the mojo to
pull on out of their collective ass.
5) It seems that 2007
is not the year of the SBL offense. What is causing this trend?
In my mind it’s a combination of playing on some harder hoops this year and a drop in the IQ of the league. I have seriously never seen so many solo homers and just poor strategy in general.
