SBL 2004 PLAYOFFS SUNDAY, AUG 8 THE TUBBIETRONIC SUPERDROME 2 SEED) HOOSIER DADDY VS. 3 SEED) XDEATHX/WSAC (season series split 2-2) HOOSIER DADDY 17 XDEATHX/WSAC 11 despite a huge game from x's billy picciotto, hoosier daddy snuck out of game 1 of the sbl playoff finals with a win that many thought was an upset despite h.d.'s higher seed. the battle of rookie of the year candidates between hoosier's brandon mckendry and x's billy pic went to picciotto, who turned in a 5 for 10 perfomance with game highs in homers with 5 and rbi with 8. however it was b.mac, who drove in 5 and hit 2 homers on 5 for 10 marksmanship with a pair of double plays, who got the win. and some people in the league still think winning is more important than personal glory. go figure. anyway, hoosier daddy found themselves down by an 11-7 count after 6 innings, but battled back down the stretch to earn the 6-run victory. the late surge included a big 6-run 9th that built the slim 1-run lead to 6 and give the kids some breathing room, and a scoreless home half of the ninth ended the game. frankovich chipped in by hitting 7 of 11 shots with 3 rbi and a pair of double plays. mikey chang hit in 6 of 10 at-bats and drove in 6. jon biddle tipped in 8 double plays and hit 6 shots to aid his team in their losing effort. XDEATHX/WSAC 21 HOOSIER DADDY 7 (6 INNINGS) the smokers rebounded from their opening game loss in style, dropping 21 runs of hoosier daddy in 6 innings in spite of falling into an early hole. after scoring one in the top of the first to grab the early lead, x watched as hoosier daddy captain bryan frankovich swished thru a grand slam to start the scoring for his team. it was, however, the last major scoring run hoosier would scrounge up as biddle and co. locked down the defense and runs became few and far between. the smokers, meanwhile, had little trouble crossing the plate. they scored at least 3 runs in each of the next five innings and slowely pulled away from their overmatched opponents. picciotto stayed hot and in this game, batting from the 2-hole for the firs time all season, drove in 10 runs on 6 of 11 shooting with a pair of homers. jon biddle, sliding himself into the leadoff spot, came up big to the tune of 9 of 11 shooting with 4 rbi and 2 double plays. kip corbett added an assist and 6 hits while dank elly contributed 5 rbi. for hoosier daddy, frank drove in 5 and tipped in 2 double plays. HOOSIER DADDY 15 XDEATHX/WSAC 14 earlier in the week, sbl board and xdeathx member ben elliott, in the pbr 12-pack, was asked which of his teammates he would want taking a game-winning homer shot in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs. he selected billy picciotto, and wouldn't you know who stepped up to take a 2-run shot with his team down by 1 in the bottom of the ninth with 2 outs. ben obviously blew that one, as pic's homer rimmed out, and as the ball crashed to the ground, so did xdeathx's aspirations for an sbl world championship. trailing 11-10 heading into the ninth, hoosier daddy came alive. 4 consecutive hits brought them 3 runs before jon biddle's double play slowed the rally. hoosier was able to add one more on mikey moroco's rbi double, and the sbl's youngest team took the field in the bottom of the ninth with a 4-run lead. x countered right back, as dank elly led off the 9th with a double. smoker captain jon biddle missed a single, but picciotto, kip corbett and dank came right back with extra-base hits to pull the team within one with a man on second. jon biddle missed his second shot of the inning, a double attempt, to give x their second out and send picciotto to the middle homer line for the shot head round the world. while he missed the shot, it's obvious the smokers wouldn't have been in the situation had it not been for the terrific play of picciotoo all day long. this game was no different, as he drove in 5 and collected 4 hits. biddle tipped in 7 d.p.'s and an assits while gathering 7 hits, and kip corbett hit safely in half of his 10 at-bats. for hoosier daddy, who have proven they can beat the mighty double bluffs, brandom mckednry came up huge, hitting 7 of 10 with a homer and 6 rbi. mikey chang added 5 hits and 5 rbi while bryan frankovich hit 7 of 11, drove in 4 and tipped in 4 double plays.
