HOOSIER DADDY                                     24
THE SERBIAN JEW DOUBLE BLUFFS  30
while most sbl fans thought the young hoosier daddy squad could score right with the mighty double bluffs (on the court, anyway), nobody could have expected what happened in the early stages of game one of the sbl championship series.
after a two-on-two scrum featuring h.d. co-captains mikey moroco and bryan frankovich taking on bluff taskmaster matt mcllelland and nate tomko in a "ladder on the asphalt" match, hoosier found themselves as many team fo against the sbl's best scrumming team: batting first.  and the k-y connection took advantage.
a frankovich double got the ball rolling, and after a pair of hoosier misses coerced by psyche-out artist jon olsavsky, three straight extra-base hits plated 3 runs before a moroco miss tallied the third out.
leadoff hitter extraordinaire shelly goodpastor, in a rare breakdown, was double played to kick off the home half of the first, and the bluffs couldn't muster a run and found themselves in a rare 3-0 hole after one.
in the second, the score got ugly.  hoosier daddy came out smoking, perhaps realizing they could beat the unbeatable, to the tune of 7 more runs to take a commanding 10-0 lead.  the crowd, seemingly an even mix of those who hated hoosier daddy and those who hated the bluffs, began to sense an upset in the making.
but, as moroco replied when questioned about his teams big lead, "these are the bluffs".
another goodpastor miss was double played to kick the inning off, but the bluffs rattled off 6 straight hits afger that, including a two-run homer by tomko that closed the gap to 10-5.
hoosier daddy would score only two runs over the next fourt innings as olsavsky and tomko turned up the defense inside.  meanwhile, the bluffs cotinued to roll behind playoff veterans tomko and olsavsky, and by the end of the fourth, had taken the lead at 13-12 for the first time.
hoosier daddy didn't give up, however, and heading into the eighth found themselves down only one.  dennis lackey's two-out triple gave them the lead back momentarily, but when the bluffs batted in the home half of the stanza, they plated 10  more to expand the bulge to 30-21.  following one lass valient but futile stab at the lead, moroco, frank and co. found themselves down one game to none and reeeling from blowing a 10-0 lead.
for the victorious bluffs, nate tomko put on a clinic:11 of 14, 5 homers, 18 runs batted in, 1 assist and 4 double plays.  olsavsky added 10 hits, a homer, 5 rbi, 2 double plays and a psyche out and mcclelland hit on 11 of 14 shots.
dennis lackey paced hoosier daddy with a 10 for 13, 9 rbi outing.  frankovich and brandon mckendry drove in 6 apiece with the latter tipping in 3 double plays.

THE SERBIAN JEW DOUBLE BLUFFS  18
once again, the bluffs came out slow and found themselves in an early defecit.  this time, however, the hoosier daddy lead wasn't quite as large and the bluffs responded in even louder fashion.
trailing 2-1 after two and a half innnings, the bluffs blew away hoosier daddy and all but locked up the championship with a 10-run third that saw them rattled off 11 hits in a row.  in the huge innning, ben smith became only the second player in league history tohit all three homers in an inning. (bit of sbl info: who is the only other player to accomplish this feat?  nate tomko? jared clayton? andy esenwein?  nope.... joel lepak)
once again falling victim to the offensive assfucking of the sj2b, hoosier daddy ran out of wind for their sails.  a mid-inning substitution gave them a few blows from seth salcedo, who banged home a homer and about a half-dozin insults thrown in the direction of mcclelland and co., but the game was ultimately over in the third.
and just to make sure, the bluffs plated 6 more in the 6th, creating a 17-6 cushion.  they then spent the next few innings flirting with a 12-run mercy win.
ben smith finished with 5 hit in 11 at-bats with 4 homers and 8 rbi.  olsavsky added a 6 for 8 performance with a psyche-out and an assist.  tomko hit 8 of 11 shots with 4 double plays, and mcclelland, in limited action, hit on 2 of 3 shots and tipped in a d.p.
for hoosier daddy, salcedo and frankovich divided 8 rbi.  frankovich added 3 double plays, and mike moroco led his team with 6 hits in 9 at-bats.
