UNCLE JED'S POCKET WATCH 12 TEAM KOOPA TROOPA 27 (6 INNINGS) despite another stellar game from captain shelley goodpastor, uncle jed's pocket watch continued to be the most dissapointing team of the 2005 season, losing their 3rd in a row, this time via the 12-run rule to a team that had 38 dropped on them their last time out. a leadoff triple by goodpastor seemed to get jed off onto the right foot. she was driven in by terry hall two batters later, marking only the second time all year jed scored in their first at-bat. the happiness was short lived for pocket watch fans, however, as koopa would get five in the bottom of the inning, capped by a bryan frankovich 2-run homer, one of 6 longballs on the game for b.frank. though they managed to continue scoring over the next 2 at-bats, jed only fell deeper into the hole. the big inning for koopa came in the third when they tossed in their first 11 shots , clearing the board, to expand their lead to 23-5. the frustration was evident on goodpastor's face, but she continued to hammer in shot after shot while her team let her down. when the dust settled on the 5th beatdown of the day, koopa had recovered from their earlier asswhuppin' nicely, handing goodpastor the worst loss of her career and exacting some revenge on the team that had intially knocked them from the ranks of the unbeatens. mcclelland went 8 for 12 on the game with a homer and 4 runs batted in. bryan frankovich chipped in with 8 hits, including those 6 longballs, and 12 rbi. pat lackey, using the rainbow shot to his full advantage, put in 6 of 11 shots with 3 rbi, 2 double plays and a psyche out. hayden went 2 of 2 off the bench. shelley finished 7 of 10 with 3 homers and 8 rbi. RETURN OF THE WEENISES 25 UNCLE JED'S POCKET WATCH 30 2004 world champion paul radkowski, acquired only moments earlier by the weenises to avoid another 2-person outing, had the game of his young life, putting in 10 of his 19 shots, hitting 2 homers, driving in 13 runs and tipping in one volleyball-style double play to provide his team with just the spark they needed to get by an uncle jed team that finally began playing like they were capable of. after a terry vs. terry scrum, won by hall, ween came out slinging, hitting 8 in a row in the top of the first to score 6 before jed could even get up to bat. instead of folding up shop like they did in games past, this jed team held strong, answering with 5 of their own capped by shelley goodpastors first homer of the game to stay right in the thick of things. the weenises would slowly build a lead in the early innings, getting up 17-8 heading into th 5th. perhaps sparked by the fearless play of the leader, who was basically carrying her team on her back with homers thus far in the day, terry hall and dank elly decided to wake from their funks. jed ultimately scored 16 over the next three frames, as dank and terry got on, allowing shelley to bomb homers until her squad finally grabbed the lead at 24-19. the weenises refuses to give up. they came right back in the top of the eighth with 6 runs of their own, half of which came on terry shernisky's 2-out assist of a paul radkowski homer to get their lead back, 25-24. rattled, goodpastor and hall missed back to back shots, the second of which went back in for 2 off the fingertips of shernisky. in the ninth, the weenises continued to pour it on. they got five more runs without ever stepping behind the triple stripe to build a 30-5 cushion before terry hall's double play stopped the bleeding. but would this be the close game that jed would be able to win, finally giving them somthing to build on for the future? no, of course not. dank got double played in his first at-bat, all but sealing UJPW's fate. but the most troubling moment of the game occured when shelley herself, down by 5 with 2 gone in the final inning, opted to shoot a solo middle homer sitting on an sbl record-tying 8 homers on the game. ANALISA GOODTHING 6 PJ & THE LADIES 23 (6 INNINGS) like koopa troopa before them, pj & the ladies used week 5 as a chance to exact some revenge on the team that had previously given them their first loss, handing analisa goodthing their asses by 17 runs in 6 innings of work. nate tomko had another big day for the ladies, hitting 7 homers (including his third grand slam of the year) and dirving in 16 on 9 of ten marksmanship. pj nespor, who the ladies improved to 7-0 with, went 7 of 10 with 4 ribbies. the game was never close. the ladies sprinted out to a 5-zip lead after one and neevr looked back. in fact, the team with the hammer and sickle on their shirts didn't even surrender a hit until the fourth inning, and it was a debatable one at that. the biggest blow for AGT came when the ladies pounded out their first 8 hits of the fourth to extend their cushion to 13-4 and all but put the game away. and just to make sure analisa stayed down, pj&l plated 8 more in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a 3 for 3 inning from rando knight and tomko's big salami to seal the deal. olsavsky, elliott and teddy ballgame would get 3 in their at-bat in the 6th, but it was far from enough and the referees ended the beating then and there. aside fomr the normal big guns, the ladies got a solid outing from their only genetic lady, as aryn christman rifled in 6 of 9 shots with 3 runs batted in. all three members of AGT drove in a pair of runs. ben elliott paced his team's defense with a pair of double plays. the ladies improved to 8-2 with the win, 6-1 in the ameican conference and 2-0 on the week without captain billy weisberg. AGT also played shorthanded, without the services of playmakers billy picciotto and elysa farrell, and as a reult, fell to .500 on the year and out of second place in the SBL american. PLAYER OF THE WEEK: on that court, there were too many huge days to pick one. how about ben smith, jeff knight, shelley goodpastor and terry shernisky split the honors? TEAM OF THE WEEK: the tots beat koopa troopa and koopa troopa reincarnated by a grand total of 72-26. but the weenises went 2-0, beating 2 really good teams without three quarters of their starting lineup. again, split the honors. GAME OF THE WEEK: weenises/jed. 8 games in week 5, 6 blowouts. this was one of the two that wasn't, but the teams still combined for 55 runs. 2005 SCHEDULE |
