SBL 2005 WEEK 10
JULY 24
THE BIG HOUSE

ANALISA GOODTHING  11
THE FUPALOOTERS        12  (10 innings)
the final week of the 2005 season got off on the right foot as analisa goodthing and the fupalooters slugged it out in a real nailbiter that could have, and probably should have, been won by both teams quite a few times.
after starting slowly with neither team scoring in the first 4 innings, analisa got on the board first when billy picciotto's triple drove in dank elly.  it was the only run they would muster though, and the fupalooters came right back in the bottom of the fifth with 2 of their own.
over the next few innings, fupa would build the lead to 7-1, actually putting together more hits in the sixth than they had collected all game before.  analisa hung tough, and finally got their bats working in the top of the 8th as they rattled off 5 in a row.  during the stretch, analisa captain ben elliott hit a huge 3-run homer with two gone to give his team a one-run advantage.
by the time the bottom of the ninth rolled around, fupa found themselves trailing by two in a game that could cost them the regular season title.  after a brandon mckendry missed solo homer, jeremy battynani calmly banked in a double to put a runner in scoring position for the dreary day blue.  jon biddle would miss a rbi double, but dennis lackey's triple would go off the rim and about 20 feet straight up into the air before falling back through to knot the game.  mckendry would be given a second crack at a single in the inning, this time with the game on the line, but would once again fail as the game headed to extra innings.
desperately needing some runs, analisa would get a leadoff triple from picciotto followed by a double by jamie fabian to grab the one-run lead.  the black and silver would cool off, however, and the inning would end with no further damage when fabian's 3-run homer went off the rim.
once again, fupa would need to score to keep hope alive.  battyani nailed a double to kick the bottomm of the 10th off, but picciotto would tip a d.p. in off of biddle's miss to bring fupa to it's last out.  dennis lackey, who had been lighting up the middle triple all game, found nothing but the back of the rim from his spot, but the ball bounced hard over the heads of  the analisa defense and back to lackey, who tossed in an underhand self-assist to snatch victory away from agt.
given a third shot, mckendry would finally nail his single, and this time he win the game for the oompaloompers.
in victory, lackey and mckednry would both go 6 for 11 with 4 rbi.  lackey would record 2 psyche outs, while mckendry tipped in 3 d.p.'s.  biddle tapped home 5 double plays.
for the losers, who dropped the season series with fupa 2-1, dank elly would go 6 for 10 and ben elliott drove in 4.

TEAM KOOPA TROOPA  15
PJ & THE LADIES              16
nate tomko nailed a walk-off triple in the bottom of the ninth to plate jon olsavsky and give the ladies what may be their biggest win of all time.
in  a back-and-forth contest in which neither team ever led by more than 4, the ladies drew first blood in the second with 4 consecutive hits to make the score 4-0.  koopa would answer right back, getting 5 of their own to retake the lead, and the two first-place teams would trade advantages 7 more times before all was said and done
in the eight inning, after surrendering a lead to koopa moments earlier, the ladies had 2 on and 2 outs when tomko hit a big 3-run homer to give his squad a 2-run cushion.  it was a far cry from the way the ladies had played over the last few weeks, and more importantly the way they had played koopa all season, when they frequently left 2 runners on every inning.
though koopa would tie the contest up in the top of the ninth with 2 of their own thanks to three-baggers from grag lackey and bryan frankovich, the ladies would not be denied this time.  olsavsky led off the bottom of the stanza with a single, setting up tomko's winning triple.
  olsavsky finished with 9 hits in 11 at-bats and 5 rbi.  tomko added an 8 for 11, 2 homer, 10 rbi, 7 d.p. effort.
for the losers, greg lackey went 9 for 11 with 4 ribbies, mcclelland plated 6 runs, and bryan frank tipped in a team-high 5 double plays.
the lady win would all but knock koopa out of contention for the regular season crown and also put tremedous pressure on the fupalooters, who would need to beat the tots later in the day to keep their hopes alive.

RETURN OF THE WEENISES        15
UNCLE JED'S POCKET WATCH  10
the weenises gave uncle jed a taste of something they hadn't enjoyed in 3 weeks: defeat.  paced by a monster 6 for 10, 2 homer, 7 rbi, 1 assist, 2 double play game from newest weenis pat lackey, the blue and gold overcame a slow start to put up all 15 runs in the final 4 innings and pull out the big win.
both teams came out cold.  jed wouldn't score until the fourth, and had only 2 hits in the first three innings.  things were no better on the weenis side, either, as they would hit safely only 4 times in the first 5 innings.  things got so ugly jed captain shelley goodpastor pulled herself out after only 4 at-bats in which she could muster only 1 single.
when things did finally get moving, they would come slowly for jed.  2 in the sixth, 2 in the seventh... pocket watch would get at least one but no more than 3 in each of the final 6 innings.  the the 6-0 lead they had in the 6th would quicly dissapear, however, as the weenises went about things the opposite way, scoring runs in big bunches.  they would go off for 8 in the 6th frame to build a lead they would never relinquish, then pad it with 2 in the seventh and 5 more in the eighth.
when jed got to bat in the bottom of the ninth, they trailed by 8 but would quicly put 3 on the board with no outs.  lee nespor would miss a 2-run homer attempt, and jef fknight would follow up the miss with a double to keep jed in the game.  terry hall's shot would go in and out, then right back in, though it was tough to tell whether it should have been ruled as a knight assist or a shernisky double play, as both seemingly got a piece of the pill.  after a brieg discussion, the referee's determined it was shernisky, and the game and jed's 6-game streak were both over.
for the victors, danielle hennon added 7 hits in 10 attempts. in a losing effort, jeff knight would turn in a 7 of 9, 3 ribbie, 5 double play line.

ANALISA GOODTHING           22
RETURN OF THE WEENISES  16

in one of the more shocking outcomes of the day, analisa used a 5th-inning explosion to breeze past the weenises and head into the postseason on a high note.
with team ween coming off a big win over jed and analisa still reeling from a crushing loss to arch-rivals the fupalooters, one had to expect this game to favor the weenises.  and it did, as shernsiky and friends would build a small lead in the early stages before having the tide turn on them in a big way.
goodthing would bang home 10 in a row before surrendering their first out in their hufe fifth.  things didn't get any better for the rotw after out number one, as 8 more came in a row of the agt fingers to put the inning total at 18 runs and the game score at 21-4.
the weenises would do all they could to get back into the game, even having a big 8-run seventh of their own, but for all intents and purposes, the game was over in the fifth as analisa just put it on cruise control.
picciotto was big man for his squad, draining 7 of 11 including 5 homes and 11 runs batted in.  dank elly contribued 10 hits and 6 rbi while ben elliott would drive in 4 and jamie fabian finish 7 for 12.
shernisky went 7 for 11 with 7 ribbies in a losing effort.  pat lackey added 6 rbi.
TEAM KOOPA TROOPA               26
TRAIN ON TERRY SHERNISKY  16
koopa overcame their gut-wrenching last-second loss to the ladies with an equally impressive win, punishing the tots by 10 to earn a 2-1 win in the season series.
the tots had given koopa trouble all year, thumping them once and playing them tight in a game 2 loss.    this time, however, koopa was just too much.
both team came out hot, TKT just stayed that way.  over the first 5 innings, koopa had built only a 21-15 lead against the dangerous offensive squad.  it was the defenses that decided this one, as koopa would rely on bryan frankovich inside, and he would come through with a d.p. in each of the final 4 innings to keep the tots from scoring again until the game was well over.
koopa, meanwhile, just ocntinued pouring the runs on, and finished with at least one every inning, a feat that hadn't been accomplished in a 9-inning game all season.
for the winners, greg lackey led the way with an 11 for 14, 9 rbi outing.  bryan frankovich finished with 6 double plays, and added 8 hits and 5 rbi on offense.  mike frankovich chipped in 7 hits and 6 rbi.
in a losing effort, mikey moroco tallied 8 hits, 3 homers, 9 rbi ad 5 double plays.  katie kelly and aryn christman posted identical 7 for 11, 2 rbi lines.

JUKEBOX HERO                              13
UNCLE JED'S POCKET WATCH  14
in the much anticpated pre-game scrum, the sbl got a treat in a rematch of the shelley goodpastor/aryn christman showdown from 3 weeks earlier.  the previous slobberknocker was won by christman, and goodpastor was intent on not letting her young rival better her twice.
the battle started as all the men it attendance hoped it would, with a lot of grabbing, clothes pulling, and grunting.  after 3 glorious minutes of heaving, sweating sexiness, christman finally broke free of goodpaetor's grasp and looked to have the thing won as she raced to the finish line where the ball waited peacefully on the ground.
but aryn didn't count on sbl rookie and admitted  black man terry hall, who wasn't about to let his fantasy end.  as christman bent down oh so erotically to scoop up my ball, terry let loose with a thunderous punt that sent wild thing screaming tp the ground and the ball sailing to another area code.
never one to quit on anything, goodpastor hunted down the ball and brought it back to the scrumming arena for more bumping and grinding.  or so we thought, as shelley proved to be a combination of brains and sexy, deploying the old "run behing the fence" trick to finally whip out the win and stuff it all down aryn's virgin throat.
then there was a game, and goodpastor and uncle jed won that, too.

TRAIN ON TERRY SHERNISKY  27
THE FUPALOOTERS                      10
the sbl brass broke out another first for the sbl, this time declaring a 3-on-3 gladiator scrum would determine home-team advantage for this, the biggest of games.  a gladiator scrum, as the league was told, allowed the captains of the involved teams to recruit any players in the sbl to do their dirty woirk.
jon biddle, whose fupalooters needed only a win to hoist the sbl regular season championship and a birth in the finals, employed the services of teammate brandon mckendry, analisa goodthing stud dank elly, and reinging sbl scrum tournament champ nate tomko.  ben smith's tots, who needed a win to reach .500, recruited speedster terry hall, and a pair of meatheads in the ladies' rando knight and koopa captain matt mcclelland.
after the fupa scrum team made short work of the bigger, but slower tots warriors, the sbl decided to go best of three.  it did little good, as mckendry, tomko and elly would whip up on their counterparts once again to earn home-team honors for fupa.
  not that it mattered.
the tot offense was just too much for the defensive-minded, slow-it-down fupalooters.  smith and co. came out of the gates hard, totally blowing fupa out by the 4th inning.  sensing they couldn't win the game, the 'looters decided to have some fun at the expense of the final score an resorted to a parade of solo homerun, most of which missed badly.  in addition, biddle managed to get himself tossed from the game after swatting katie kelly from the shoulders of mckednry.
  it was fun, though.
no tot registered less than 9 hits in the game, with aryn christman and ben smith reaping the most rbi with 9 and 12, respectively.  mike moroco added 4 double plays defensively.
for the losers, mckendry finished 6 of 9 with 3 longballs and a quintet of ribbies.
the tots won the season series 2-1.  the loss ensured fupa would miss out on a regular season title.

JUKEBOX HERO                                       2
PJ & THE MUTHERFUCKIN' LADIES  11
for the first time in their storied history, pj & the ladies are headed to the sbl world championship.
after their big win against koopa earlier in the evening, coupled with the tots upset win over the fupalooters one game prior, all the ladies needed was a win against 3-16 jukebox hero to lock up their first-ever sbl regular season title.  while some in the crowd surely wanted to see the ladies face a "stacked"  team of "all-stars" like koopa troopa had to do one week earlier, sbl president nate tomko ultimately decided that he didn't want to repeat his previous mistake (screwing the ladies over repeatedly , making jukebox too good- take your pick) and went with a traditional jbh lineup of castoffs and ne'er-do-wells.
and wouldn't you know it, the ladies took advantage, though they certainly didn't look like a squad headed to a regular season championship in the process.
when the dust settled on the ladies victory celebration, the statbook showed nate tomko with 6 hits in 9 attempts with 4 homers and 7 rbi.  olsavsky added 5 hits and 4 rbi.
for the losers, patrick nespor drilled 5 shots.  but newcomer tessa lockovich, lee nespor, and erin hayden all played defense well.
the ladies finish the season at 13-7, the worst record ever for a champion, and 1 game ahead of both koopa and fupa.  they also swept the season series with the heroes.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  ARYN CHRISTMAN, 23 of 36, 14 rbi for a player who, up to a couple weeks ago, was coming off the bench
