week 9 games played july 15, 2001, @ Patti's Place Bocce Heroes 9 PJ & The Ladies 6 the final week of the sbl regular season began with the ladies, sans captain pj nespor, but playing with newly acquired joel lepak (who was dealt to the ass clowns for lenny crist a day prior) suffering a heartbreaking loss to the bocce heroes. after giving up an early 8-1 lead to the heroes, the ladies stormed back with 5 runs in the final 4 innings, but it wasn't enough as the heroes held on for a 9-6 win. lepak seemed lost playing in the more upbeat style of the sbl west, hitting well below his average with a 6 of 19 performance with 4 rbi's and a double play. however, he did manage an sbl first with 3 homers in one inning. rando knight tipped in 3 dp's, but only drove in 2 on 6 of 18 marksmanship. for the winning bocce heroes, chris hvizdak continued his stellar late-season play with 8 of 13 shooting with 3 rbi's. billy weisberg went 6 of 14 with 3 rbi's and 2 dp's. NAACP 11 No Talent Ass Clowns 2 led by captain jon olsavsky's 7 of 11, 2 rbi, 8 double play (an sbl record) line, the naacp locked up a playoff spot with an 11-2 mollywhopping of the top-seeded ass clowns, leveling the season series at 2 apiece in the process. also for the naacp, jamie moroco went 6 of 12 with a homer and 6 runs batted in, while sean hood went 3 of 12 with a homer and three rbi's. for the ass clowns, nate tomko went 3 of 9 with a rbi and 5 double plays, but was held homer-less for the first time in his sbl career. adam fabian went 3 of 9 with the other ass clown rbi. Purple Undependables 15 (7 innings) PJ & The Ladies 5 the undependables pulled into a tie with the pj and the ladies for the final playoff spot with a 15-5, 7 inning bitch-slapping. leading the way for the undependables was jeffybug meyers, going 8 of 14 with 2 rbi's and 4 dp's. also chipping in for the victors was hammy, who drove in 6 runs on 5 of 12 shooting and 2 homers. hamlet also contributed a homer and 7 of 11 shooting. for the ladies, torpedo joel lepak went 6 of 15 with 2 rbi's and rando knight hit a homer and drove in 3. the undependables held pj and the ladies without a double play for the first time this season. Purple Undependables 8 (10 innings) Bocce Heroes 5 after watching a 5-0 lead slip away in the final 3 innings of regulation, the undependables responded with a 3 run outburst in the 10th, then held on for the 8-5 win. the heroes had a chance to win it in 9 when, after scoring 4 runs in the 8th, couldn't manage to score a run after loading the bases with only 1 out against them. for the winning undependables, hamlet went 9 of 14 with 4 rbi's. jeff meyers went 8 of 17 with 3 rbi's and a pair of double plays. chris hvizdak went 7 of 14 for the heroes while driving in 2. billy weisberg added 2 rbi's on 4 of 15 batting while tipping in 2 dp's. NAACP 10 (6 innings) Bocce Heroes 0 a game after holding the explosive ass clowns to a mere 2 runs, the naacp continued it's stellar defense by posting the sbl's first-ever shut-out. it wasn't until the 5th inning that the naacp allowed the only made shot of the game, a single by billy weisberg. the game also marked the second time this season that the bocce heroes could manage only 1 hit, the other being a 14-1 loss to the ass clowns in week 1. jon olsavsky chalked up another 4 double plays while driving in 4 on 6 of 10 shooting with a homer. sean hood made a statement to all-star voters with 5 rbi's on 4 of 10 shooting with a homer. jamie moroco went 5 of 10 with the remaining rbi. NAACP 11 No Talent Ass Clowns 9 playing for the #2 seed in the playoffs and a shot at taking the season series with the ass clowns, the naacp responded big with an 11-9 victory. the naacp finished the season 8-6, while the ass clowns finished up at 11-3, with all 3 losses coming at the hands of the naacp. for the naacp, jon olsavsky tied his own record with 8 double plays. on the offensive side, olsavsky hit a homer to help drive in 5 runs. sean hood also drove in 5 with a homer and 4 of 13 shooting. jamie moroco went 5 of 13 with the last ass clown rbi. for the ass clowns, nate tomko went 10 of 17 with 9 rbi's, 2 homers and 2 double plays. Purple Undependables 12 PJ & The Ladies 3 the undependables won their third game of the day and fifth straight to lock up the third playoff seed and finish the season at 6-8. for pj and the ladies, the loss marked their third of the day and pushed them into a tie with the bocce heroes for the last playoff spot. jeff meyers and hammy provided the defense for the undependables, tipping in 6 double plays between them. on the other side of the plate, hammy, gary swogger and jeffybug evenly divided the 12 rbi's. jeff went 6 of 13, hammy 7 of 13 with a homer, and swogger 2 of 5 with a homer. for the slipping pj and the ladies, rando knight hit a homer, drove in a 3 runs, and went 4 of 14 from the field. he also tipped in 2 undependable misses. Bocce Heroes 9 PJ & The Ladies 8 with the final playoff spot up for grabs, ryan johnson broke an 8-all tie with a seventh inning double to bring himself home from second, then the heroes held on for the last two ladies' at bats to lock up the final playoff spot and send the ladies to the grocery store to stock up on food for the end of the year bbq blowout. billy weisberg shined for the heroes, tipping in 5 double plays while going 7 of 13 from the plate with a homer and 5 rbi's. ryan johnson also went 7 of 13 and chipped in a pair of rbi's. for the losing ladies, joel lepak went 8 of 18 with 3 rbi's and a double play. rando knight went 6 of 18 with 2 homers and 5 runs batted in. he also tipped in 5 dp's. pj and the ladies ended the season with 6 straight losses to finish up at 4-10. pj nespor can be thanked for keeping his team out of the playoffs as his team dropped all 4 of their games during the last week of the season while he partied at his house in the hamptons. --------- player of the week- jon olsavsky team of the week- purple undependables ---------- home |
