The Friday Hangover

Despite this request, there will not be any further mention of Bryan Frankovich in this week's column.

Random Thoughts (Playoffs, Week One):

  • I would like congratulate Mikey Moroco on learning the basics of HTML (as in, the lesson of needing to upload the pictures you use on a page when transferring it online from your computer), and for writing the first column I've ever read anywhere that still doesn't inform me exactly how the author feels about the topics he addressed.

  • I may have been wrong with my prediction of PJ & the Ladies beating Team Double Stuff, but seriously, did anybody see this coming? Aryn Christman and her "clusterfuck of a lineup" beat Billy Weisberg, Dennis Lackey, Jared Clayton, and Rando Knight. What makes this more impressive for me is that Double Stuff did it without having a clue on how to stop Jared Clayton or Billy Weisberg from tipping in assists. Honestly, I don't see this run continuing, but this is the playoffs and we all know to expect the unexpected during the postseason.

  • It's a real shame that PJ & the Ladies went out that way. They start off the season poorly, then beat a then undefeated Hot Fuzz in a huge upset, get Jared Clayton to show up, play well during the second half of the season, and then exit the postseason early with a whimper to an undermanned Double Stuff team. Before Sunday, this was the team nobody wanted to play.

  • Is it possible for any player to have played his last game any better than Pat Lackey? Batting over .800 for any game is impressive, especially considering that he had 17 at bats. I don't care that he never stepped outside the double line. It was still a hell of a way to go out. Perhaps the only ending more fitting for Plack would have been to nail a solo homer in his final at bat. Oh, his team won the game too.

  • The NHH/Screamin' Seagulls series was an odd one. It featured three blowouts, yet both teams played very well. It's a shame too, for I would really love to see how many home runs Terry "the boy who could only hit home runs" Hall would have shot.

  • Could the Biddle/Ben/Dank trio become the first to successfully defend their LVP "honor" from last season? Losing to PJ & the Ladies last week would have almost made that a certainty, although they're still in the running despite their team winning its first playoff series without them.

  • The overall quality of play at KY Court seemed to be much higher than in previous weeks. For a hoop that doesn't appear to be any easier than places such as the Hoffa Centre and World B. Free Memorial Park, teams sure played that way. As a matter of fact, any team that wasn't Kathleen Turner Overdrive played well. Bold prediction: Terry Shernisky returns and leads KTO to the finals this week. That's just how the SBL works.

  • Short article, I know, but I promise I'll have something better for you this week. I've been very busy this week (moreso than previous weeks) and haven't had much time to think about BASEketball.
