SBL Midseason Awards and All-Stars
Sharon All-Stars:
Nate Tomko, Sparkling Wiggles- This one's a no brainer. Tops the league in homers and RBI, bringing his batting average, double play and assist stats near the top as well. No other justification is needed for a man who has =rewritten the record book on multiple occasions. This concludes the "me kissing the league president's ass" section.
Terry Shernisky, Kathleen Turner Overdrive- Another no brainer for another player topping the stat sheets. He's also the only member of his team who doesn't look awkward in those lime green tank tops.
Katie Kelly, Sparkling Wiggles- Out of Tomko's 84 ribbies, who do you think has been most of them? Probably Katie Kelly. You can't ignore the .651 average, especially since she's realized that there are shots beyond the single line. Surprisingly, this would be Katie's first appearance in an all-star game.
Billy Weisberg, PJ & the Ladies- So far, he's hitting a career-best .528, and only time will tell if that will hold up. That's also good for 9th in the league. He's in the top ten in three other categories: RBIs, assists, and double plays
Aryn Christman, Team Double Stuff- She has pretty good numbers anyway, but consider her a lock for the Sharon All-Stars, as nobody else on the teams deserves it as of right now. I'm daring you to prove me wrong, Jamie Fabian!
Terry Hall, Screamin' Seagulls- The Screamin' Seagulls representative almost by default. Lenny and Lee are having subpar seasons, and Jon Olsavsky has only 31 ABs. Jon O has played well enough to perhaps wrestle this spot away from Hall if he continues to play for the Seagulls.
Snubs- Rando Knight, PJ & the Ladies; Kip Corbett, Kathleen Turner Overdrive
World All-Stars:
Bryan Frankovich, Hot Fuzz- The reigning two-time all-star game MVP should easily make the team to defend his title once again. There is no more deserving all-star for the World squad tham him.
Dennis Lackey, PJ & the Ladies- For those of you who thought he came out of nowhere to shoot up near the top of the stat boards, think again. Dennis was a 2004 POTY finalist and showed us that he still has that form. The middle Lackey already has more RBIs this year than either of the last two and is on pace to eclipse his total from 2004.
Greg Lackey, Kathleen Turner Overdrive- The youngest Lackey is quitetly putting together a solid season. He gets this spot over Pat Lackey because that would give the Sparkling Wiggles three all-stars, and no .500 team deserves any more than two. Plus, a 7-3 team needs more than one.
Mikey Moroco, Hot Fuzz- While he's not posting the gaudy stats like his lover, he's still playing well enough to earn a spot on this team. Mikey is a perennial all-star and I have no reason to leave him off the team.
Matt McClelland, Nappy Headed Ho's- Another perennial all-star, Mac may not be lighting it up, but is still playing well enough to garner himself a spot on the World team. I'm also going out on a limb and saying that his average will climb considerably from the measly .512 (by his standards) that it is now.
Ben Smith, Nappy Headed Ho's- The second Ho to make the team. The 9 homers and 33 RBIs aren't bad, considering that he missed a week on the type of day that would have possibly doubled those stats. As his team mates heat up, so should Ben Smith. He'll likely solidify his spot by the end of the season, and keep the Pat Lackeys and Mike Frankoviches at bay.
Snubs- Pat Lackey, Sparkling Wiggles; Mike Frankovich, Hot Fuzz; Gavin St. John, Hot Fuzz; Jamie Moroco, Nappy Headed Ho's
Midseason Awards:
Rookie of the Year- Gavin St. John, Hot Fuzz...He takes the award in a close call over Tony Mastrian. The numbers are close, except in the games played column, which is most important.
Most Improved Player- Mike Frankovich, Hot Fuzz...Could Mike take home a postseason award before Bryan? It could very well happen. Only Pat Nespor appears to be a viable candidate to win instead.
Player of the Year- Nate Tomko, Sparkling Wiggles...The POTY eludes B. Frank once again!
Until next week...
