The Friday Hangover

Short column again this week, due to being at the U.S. Open and all. I have a little time to post a little something. Lucky you.

Since none of us seem to respect Hot Fuzz's 8-0 start (the best in league history), is it safe to start making comparisons to the 2004 St. Joseph's basketball team? You probably remember them having an undefeated regular season (28-0). Not only did they not win the NCAA tournament, but they did not even manage to win their own conference tournament. That honor went to Xavier. While the competition has been much stiffer for Hot Fuzz relative to that St. Joe's team, the respect still isn't there. There are four games, which you could argue a good case that Hot Fuzz could have easily lost. Three of those are one-run, extra-innings victories where one player from the opposition had a poor game (Matt McClelland, Ben Smith, and Kip Corbett in two wins against the Nappy Headed Ho's and one against Kathleen Turner Overdrive). The other is a 14-10 victory against the Sparkling Wiggles, sans Nate Tomko. While Fuzz fans may say "If 'ifs' and 'buts' were candy and nuts...", you still have to wonder how they would fare against the Ho's, Wiggles, or KTO in a three game series. If they remain undefeated after this Sunday, maybe I'll peek a little bit more inside the numbers to see how the Fuzz stacks up against teams like the Serbian Jew Double Bluffs and the Wet Dream Team. That looks to be the case, as they'll face a Nappy Headed Ho's team, minus Ben Smith who always seems to light it up at K-Y Court (while it is not Matt McClelland's favorite place to play) and PJ & the Ladies, who scored a whopping seven runs total in Week Two at the very same venue.

Style Points Standings (through Week Four):

Style Points Player of the Week: Dennis Lackey with 3, including many solo homers and some gay looking pirouettes that make you wonder if he's better suited being on a team with Mikey and Bryan.
Style Points Goat of the Week: Pat Lackey with -3, but at least he went a game without getting double played.
