The Friday Hangover

I'm really impressed by all of the new articles springing up on the 'ol website. The interest in the league seems to have intensified, comparing March 2006 with March 2007. One would have to think articles like this one (and by Nate and a couple others) would be responsible for that. Let's hope this continues into May and then furthermore into August.

One thing I am not impressed with are the cheap shots this poor article has taken over the past week or so. I will admit, however, that it is funny when someone says your work is filled with grammatical errors, but at the same time fails to capitalize the "A" in "August" and forgets to put the "y" at the end of "they". That's really good stuff. Keep in mind that that was written by someone with a Bachelor's Degree in English. There was another article, which attempted to make a joke. I believe it was in reference to last week's article about Terry Hall. It was just too bad that I fell asleep while trying to read through it, and when I tried to find the "joke" again, I got lost in all the broken picture links. I'm sure it was witty though. I did catch that it predicted Bryan Frankovich to win Player of the Year and for B-Frank to finally win his left-eye in 2007. That was probably the best joke I have ever read in any article for this website.

It wouldn't be as much fun if we didn't bust each other's balls.

Seriously, though, if Mikey Moroco wanted to do a PTI-style article on a regular basis, he could probably find a partner to do that with. It could be interesting.

Since copying ESPN is all the rage (and we do that well here in the SBL), I am going to steal a little something they do on NFL Live called "What Were They Thinking?" I think that's pretty self-explanatory. But first, there has been a trade rumor floating around this week that needs put to rest. I am not trading Jamie Moroco to Lee Nespor's team, especially not for Big Ando! Can anybody tell me what sense it would make to trade away a hall of fame player for somebody who would not only show up no more than twice all season, but probably not be a great fit for this team anyway? You can't because it wouldn't make any. A couple of options, which are more enticing to me, to me have been discussed with league officials, but they said that they would frown upon those trades happening because it would mess with the competitive balance of the league. I am not going to say what those were, so just know that they're not happening either. Sure, Jamie and I may not see eye to eye, but to think that I would trade her and not get value in return is preposterous. As of right now, there are no deals currently in the works to trade Jamie Moroco anywhere.

What was Billy Weisberg thinking drating Joel Lepak with his first pick and not Lenny Christ? Plain and simple, I'm not one-hundred percent sure that anybody knows the answer to that one. He probably could have waited until the third or even fourth round for this pick. Considering Joel's far-from-spotless attendence record and his history with the Ladies, I'm not sure that anybody would have taken him at any point in the draft. Also consider that Lenny Christ was born to be a Lady and that we might actually see him after week two this year. For those of you who weren't at the draft, you should have seen Nate's reaction when Billy tried to draft a player who wasn't fit for the Ladies. Man, that was funny. I will have to admit, if you're going to have to ask this question, one must wonder...

What was Rando thinking by not being able to make it from his room upstairs down to the living room to draft his team the right way? Apparently, he was pretty sick, but hey: we could have easily have held it in his room for him. I just hope there wasn't any hanky panky going on with him and his barely legal girlfriend. That would have been awkward. Although, it would have been funny for one of us to draft Tara and to the whole "Train on Rando's Girlfriend" team name. The reaction may not have been as priceless ad Ted's two years ago, but it would have been funny nonetheless. The point here is, had Rando been able to stumble his queer ass down to the draft room or had we brought it upstairs, we may not need to ask...

What was the entire league thinking letting Lenny Christ slip down to the seventh pick with Lee Nespor? Being one of those captains, I would have to admit that it was silly to draft Matt Battyani ahead of him. On the flip side, it was definately in the back of my mind that Lenny Christ is, always has been, and will always be a Lady at heart, no matter what happened in 2005. I would assume that the other captains had that thought in the back of their heads as well. Sometimes, we forget that in the SBL, having fun with your friends comes before having to win and being competitive. That's not to say that Lenny wouldn't be happy playing for another team, but rather that he would be happiest playing for PJ & the Ladies. I may not have seen him at his best, but from reading through the site and the few times that I have seen him, I can call him a true SBL legend. A happy Lenny Christ is good for the SBL. Plus, can we say that the Ladies will even be competitive this year. Not that they don't have the talent, but these are the Ladies. They're about fighting "The Man" moreso than winning a left-eye. Besides, they did so two years ago. Why would they try to win another one? That would make as much sense as guys wearing crocs (Yes Mac, they're not just ladie's shoes. There are models for guys. Scary, isn't it?).

What were league officials thinking pairing up Ben Smith with Jamie Moroco and Katie Kelly with Danielle Hennon? Maybe they like their drama in the SBL! Knowing Jamie and myself, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out that our personalities don't mesh very well. As mentioned above, this would have been the main reason for what was almost the first trade of this preseason. However, I will come out and say publicly that I have no problems with my team and I am willing to do the best job I can as captain whether Jamie stays or not. The issues between Katie and Danielle may be a bit worse. Having a guy like Pat Lackey on the team may help here (as Mac stated last week). And if he shows up regularly and doesn't play like he did for Bukkake Tsunami. I have also heard from a credible source that they wouldn't have put these teams together if they would have believed that personal problems between team mates would have prevented things from running smoothly. If that doesn't work, there are no issues between any two players in this league that a few cold ones at a post-game bonfire can't resolve. Rest assured, SBL. There will be no drama this year! ...Or so we think...

What were SBL fans and players thinking when they voted that Kip Corbett would do the best job as captain in 2007? More specifically, forty percent of voters. I love the guy, but there is plenty of evidence that would do anything but support that claim. All other captains except Aryn Christman have previous captaining experience, so that probably wasn't the issue. All other team captains have won an SBL title, so that couldn't be an issue. Three other captains have led their teams to a berth in the finals, although none of them have won it as captain. We could be getting warmer here, except for the fact that Kip Corbett has never been to the finals in his otherwise brilliant career. With two Sherniskies, Greg Lacky, and Tony Mastrian around, this may be his best team yet, however. Maybe some people feel that this is finally Kippy's year. Or maybe Kip stuffed the ballot box.

What was Ben Smith thinking when he decided to write weekly articles on Fridays? To be honest, I love the league and want to do something, anything, to help it out and make it more interesting. You would also have to admit that this is a pretty good vehicle for burning Bryan Frankovich on a regular basis. I didn't think that I would be able to keep it up with fresh material for what has been over two months now, and I will admit that I have been stretching it on a couple occasions. You can probably figure out when those times have been. Whether or not everybody likes this article is not of much importance to me. First off, I am nowhere near a professional. I do get paid to do this, but only because I'm at work, and we don't do much on Fridays here. That is part of the reason why I have been able to write these every week. Secondly, I realize that no matter how good I am, not everybody is going to like my work. It's just a part of life. We all have to deal with that. I will say that most of the feedback has been positive, save for a few smartass comments (i.e. a couple of other articles you'll find on this wonderful site). The most important thing is that Nate likes reading articles like this one. He has worked hard for over six years to make the league what it is today, so he deserves it. And if I'm inspiring others to do their own articles (the second most important thing), than it can only be more of a positive. Enough being serious though. Let's get back to what you all came here for: laughs at the expense of Bryan Frankovich.

Actually, there are no more this week. It's too nice of a day to waste reading SBL articles. Go visit Terry Hall or something. Plus, I have homework to do here so I can enjoy this day too when I get out of work. Have a great weekend!
