The Friday Hangover

Wow, what a week! I was actually able to be outside for more than thirty seconds without freezing half to death! According to Accuweather, it shouldn't get as cold as it was last week again, though the forecast could have changed between the time I saw that and the time I'm writing this sentence. This week, we have an exclusive interview with the two-time All-Star game MVP, Bryan Frankovich! But before we get to that, I would like to talk about two things: one isn't SBL-related, the other is.

Ok, so can anyone please explain to me why girls wear "crocs"? If you don't know what they are, they are those plastic, slip-on shoes with holes on the top (or click here for a picture). I know that they're trendy and all, but so were Vanilla Ice and Pogs. That's really a group I'd like to be a part of! I never was one to pay attention to what a girl has on her feet until now. Whenever I'm out, I make sure that anyone I talk to is not wearing those damn shoes. They make you look unattractive on the outside and probably on the inside...like my ex-girlfriend is now. She started wearing the crocs about a year ago, and immeadietly her attitude went from "pretty cool" to "bitch" and we broke up about two months later. Coincidence? Probably, but one things are for sure: I don't miss her and I surely don't miss her wearing them. The point is that crocs and anybody who wears them are super-ultra lame, which is about as lame as it gets (think Billy Weisberg trying to talk trash, but ten times as lame). And I'm not the only one who hates them. Check out this. Enough bitching.

So people have been asking me, "What's the deal for Baseketball this year?" "How will teams be made?", either because they believe that I'm all-knowing (which is pretty close to the truth) or because they just want an excuse to talk to me (true story). To be honest, it's not certain how teams will be made this year. Rumor has it that Nate may actually be making the teams himself! While this may not be true, it is surely something to think about. Imagine the teams he could come up with: an all-Lackey team (with two Moroccos on the side), an all-girls team, or perhaps an all-Nespor team (with two Frankoviches on the side). You can mix and match Lackeys, Nespors, Moroccos, and Frankoviches. It is also possible that Nate will be more creative and think of more fitting team concepts and match players up appropriately. Another rumor is that the lethal lottery may make a return in 2007, and on more than one occasion. Man, that's a lot of spice to the SBL season already! But no matter how teams are made and whether or not the lethal lottery becomes a reality, whichever team I'm on is probably going to win it all this year. End of story.

Now for what you've all been waiting for: The Friday Hangover's exclusive interview with Bryan Frankovich. We've ribbed him a bit here over the last three weeks ("we", as in myself and the hundreds of monkeys on keyboards typing up this masterpiece every week), but we all know that he's a true superstar. So here it is, my interview with Bryan Frankovich:

Friday Hangover: As someone who is definitely talented enough to do so, how do you feel your chances are of finally winning a Player of the Year trophy in 2007?

Bryan Frankovich: Well Ben, I think you correctly stated it in your previous Friday hangover. If I have a successful season (stat wise) and a long run into the playoffs where I can lead my team to a championship, then I think they would be pretty good. I personally thought I had the stats to do it last year, but I really didn't take my team anywhere. The years before where I did make it to the championship, I didn't have the stats. Although, if I did have another good year and I did make it to the coveted championship I would still be in a fierce competition between Terry and Nate (Dont forget all of the other sbl greats) We will just have to see how this year unfolds, and who is on my team.

FH: You've played on some interesting teams in your four years in the league (Weenises Strike Back, Hoosier Daddy, Koopa Troopa, Frankenbitches). Which was your favorite, and why?

BF: Weenises Strike Back was definitely a great year. However I wasn't too familiar with the league and didn't know that many people. Also, lets face it, I wasn't that good so its not like I had any really great performances. Hoosier Daddy was a better year for me in my opinion. I had a great team. I mean who could forget salcedo getting tossed in the trash can up at Westminster that was just priceless. Again this year I made it to the championship but failed to win (who would've guessed that, right?) Last season was also a hell of a lot of fun and we certainly had the talent to be a great team, but for some reason it just didn't click. So that leaves me with my Koopa Troopa campaign. Although the Hoosier Daddy season comes close, I think this was my favorite. I loved who I played with that year (g lack, m frank, big mac) We played well together and thats all that really mattered. The close records of every team made it a lot more comptetive and fun towards the end of the year as everyone tried to get the highest playoff seed possible. It really was a year that I'll miss the most.

FH: How about your favorite team mate?

BF: This is really a hard question. I'm not sure if I've ever had a favorite team mate, but there have been many that I really enjoyed playing with, and would do it again any time. I'll start the list with Matt McClelland. He was a great leader and a hell of a player. It makes it 10 times easier to perform in a tight game when you have someone telling you to just take your shot and not worry about anyone else. He was the guy that would tell me to take the middle homer over the middle double and It really helped us win some games by his show of selflessness. Dennis Lackey was another great team mate. For anyone who has never had the privilege to play with chicken leg lackey, they are missing out. He is hilarious and a very talented baseketball player. My brother mike was also someone I enjoyed having on my team. His always positive attitude was a really good sign on how he would perform in baseketball. Although he wasn't great his rookie season, he made tremendous strides his sophomore season in my opinion. Anyone looking for a decent extra hitter should really look into him. Mike Moroco was always a good team mate to have. Clearly one of the best in the league, it is really great playing on the same team as him. Although he is not the best at defense, he is most certainly one of the best offensive threats. Well if I missed anyone, its because I'm typing this up during study hall and I don't have that much time haha.

FH: We all know the rap about you doing well in the regular season, yet not producing in the playoffs.Who would you like to have on your team this year in order to reverse the curse?

BF: Hmm have I been that bad in the playoffs? If I recall correctly the two times I've been to the championship. We put up good numbers, but the other team just out-shot us. But you are correct if you mean by producing you mean winning. I've always wanted to be on a team with Jon Biddle. First of all that would be a really good defensive lineup, and if you throw in another decent hitter in the mix I think that kind of team would do well. Really, I haven't ever been disappointed with my team we just haven't been able to win one. Hopefully that will change this year whether there is a draft or not.

FH: Seriously though, how does it feel to have my teams eliminate your teams three years in a row?

BF: Well I can't say I'm all too happy about it, but I think the real question is how did you like getting your ass handed to you in last years championship by Shernisky and company? And the previous year by Tomko and...err P.J and the Ladies? Yea I know you had your Serbian Jew All-Stars year, but that wasn't nearly as big as your other 2 chances could have been. But all this talk aside I'm sure well meet again in the playoffs this year, and things should be a little different this time. (Editor's Note: That's the Serbian Jew Double Bluffs, and to answer your question, at least my teams won games in the finals while playing a team who was destined to win the whole thing (PJ & the Ladies) and a team which was simply better (Wet Dream Team). But hey, as long as Billy Weisberg doesn't win another one, right?)

FH: What was your most memorable experience in the SBL?

BF: Well one of my favorite days playing the game would have to be the week at Westminster in 04. Many probably don't remember seth salcedo covered in beer, me shoved in a trash can, ice all over the court, and pat lackey running around screaming anarchy. That was probably the funniest week of my baseketball career. Now talking outside of the game, I would have to say all the times hanging out at nates with all of the great people I have met. The bon fires were awesome, as was the keg race. Hopefully there will be many more of these occasions to come.

FH: How does it feel to have a brother who's whose height in inches is greater than his weight in pounds?

BF: Sure hes tall and lanky. Sure many of you think he cant play defense at all (which may be true) But he did start to put the double plays down in the post season. So maybe come next year he could start to help down low there on defense.

FH: Which of these movies best describes your life outside of Basketball and why: Brokeback Mountain, Super Troopers, Donnie Darko, Orgazmo, or the South Park Movie? (And if it's Brokeback Mountain, it's ok to come out. John Amaechi had the guts too do it. No need to worry about being judged. I'm pretty sure Tim Hardaway doesn't read this website.)

BF: Well since I haven't even seen Brokeback Mountain,Supertroopers, or Orgazmo, I guess I can say South Park? Hmm I don't really know how I can say why? So I guess I'll just say Canada sucks.

FH: Thoughts about going to college...

BF: Well, I think I will be going to Duquesne University. And I wont be leaving till the end of August, so you guys won't have to worry about me missing it for school. Really, its hard to believe that I entered this league as an 8th grader going into high school, and now I'm old enough to drive cars, fight in wars, and buy porn. Its also a shame that I'm no longer the youngest in the league anymore, but I guess people just get older.

FH: If you could only choose one of these to accomplish in your SBL career, which one of these would it be and why: winning Player of the Year or winning a championship?

BF: Winning a championship for sure. I've come relatively close to both, but I think I would be much more satisfied with an SBL championship. Hell, I just need to win something so people can shut up about my curse haha. I couldn't even win the damn rock paper scissors tournament...So maybe I am destined to never win anything??

And there you have it. While still trying to be politically correct, we've now learned that maybe B-Frank can do a little more trash-talking now. Maybe we'll see some poise and swagger from him this year...and maybe Rando will date girls older than my younger brother (he's 9). But seriously, anything can happen in the SBL and maybe this is his year. He definately has the confidence to believe it.

Well, that's all I have for you today. My apologies to Canada and those of you who were expecting another embarrassing photo of Katie Kelly. Until next time, I wish you all a wonderful weekend in which you remember nothing. Ang get rid of the crocs! Peace!
