2- THERE ARE NO GOOD RIVALRIES LEFT IN THE SBL NOW THAT TOMKO AND THE LADIES HAVE JOINED FORCES
the 2005 edition of fact or fiction kicks off in style as single season double play champ jon biddle, sbl hall of famers billy weisberg and jamie moroco, and everyone's favorite lackey (assuming it's not dennis or greg) go head-to-head-to-head to get this party started.
pat: FACT. ok, i like this kid enough, being one of the few SBLers that actually knows him, but lets face it.  not only does he date one of the leagues holy trinity of high school hotties, but he's tall, he's got a wicked shot (assuming that the shot that has been beating me at horse since he was in about 3rd grade translates to the SBL court), and if he lives up to the preseason hype there's a shot that team chicken leg becomes this years hoosier daddy.  that means  dennis spends another year as the SBL's favorite lackey, so i say something must be done.
FICTION. since teams change from year to year (except the ladies, of course) the best rivalries have always been between players, and this year will be no exception.  this year we see shelley and nate face off for the first time.  we see b.frank and mikey"chang" moroco face off for the first time.  and we see biddle and bmf whitey face off for the first time.  add in the already existing family rivalries (moroco vs. moroco, lackey vs. lackey vs. lackey, and nespor vs. nespor vs. nespor) and the SBL will be as heated as ever.
FICTION. last year in a game against jukebox hero, the bluffs decided they would trot out the all-high school girl lineup.  that means shelley and no nate.  shelley proceeded to destroy the single-game records for homers and RBIs.  shelley will be just fine.  as for nate, well he was actually a POY PRE-shelley, so i don't think there's any worries there, especially playing with his roommate billy weisberg.  if anything, look for increased production out of both.
FICTION.  going through league annals, only shelley and nate have been a more successful duo than mikey and bryan.  in two years together they've reached two finals, both times elevating teams that no one thought would do jack at the beginning of the year.  this year, though seperate, both appear to be on solid squads, and while they may never rekindle that warm, tingly KY magic, i don't look for the stats of either of the two to drop off.
FACT.  most observers would say ben elliott suffered the biggest embarassment in SBL history, save winning an LVP award, by having his head shaved ON THE COURT BY SIDEBURN TRIMMERS during the all-star festival last summer.  this fueled ben's rage and demonic play during the fall classic.  double that by the chance to repay big ted by keeping him on the bench with some solid play, and i think this could be big whitey's breakout year.
FACT AND FICTION.  i know, this is the cheap way out, but i see one of two things happening this year.  either billy and nate lend their finals experience to rando and pj and the ladies FINALLY take it to the next level, or pj and rando lead nate and billy down the dark side of chaos and anarchy, keeping in mind that the ladies motto is not "just win, baby", but rather "just hump, baby".  right now, i'm leaning towards choice #1, with just a little bit of #2 mixed in.  look for the ladies to be a double playtipping, homerun shooting hump anything that moves machine this year.  if they can stay serious enough for the playoffs, they'll have as good a chance as anybody.  if they can't, well, everyone will get humped and a good time will be had by all.
jamie:  FICTION.  i am on this team, i can't want this to be a fact.  the end.
FICTION.  when i first saw the escapades that went on that day at the draft, i thought, oh no, what has become of baseketball?  how can nate and billy be a part of that team?  but now that the dust has settled, it can be seen that many more rivalries are to be had.  any team that nate is on will go head to head with someone.  and in my opinion, that someone will be team chicken leg.  you ladies better watch out.
FICTION.  them being on seperate teams will have no effect on their level of play.
FACT.  they are both good players, but they will be distracted by their lack of ability to yell at each other for things that they did wrong.
FICTION.  my apologies to ben, but with jon and picciotto on the same team, anything he does that is amazing will probably be shoved out of the limelight.  but that's not to say that he won't be better than more than half the league.
FICTION.  although nate and billy have joined forces with this menace, rando and pj will not forsake their nature and their antics will continue enough that it will have an effect on their ability to win.  they may make it to the finals, but refer to numba two for the response to that comment.
billy: FACT last time i trusted someone i had never seen was when i voted for radcliffe, who i thought was going to be rookie of the year.  i don't  believe radcliffe hit a shot all year.  i believe the rookie will crack under the pressure.
FICTION. Nate vs Pj & the ladies were a great rivalry, but I believe these teams will spawn new rilvaries like ben vs biddle, mikey vs frankovich, and everyone vs terry. One of the biggest rivalries may be lost but that only leaves room for more to come.

FICTION. Even know they wont have each other, they still bat over .750 .   no matter whos team they are on the are going to get thier rbis.  to be a candidate for player of the year you have to show individual qualties, and both of these players will be in the top 5 no matter what team they are on.
FACT if ben has the ability to stay  healthy. this means no basketball, no running, and no walking and talking at same time.  with guaranteed playing time this year, big whitey will be able to make a lasting impression in sbl stat books
FICTION.  once the figure out they don't need each other  to breathe, take showers, or shoot a basketball,  they will be fine.
wait, people are thinking we aren't going  to win?
president's page
biddle:  absolutely FACT.  i know this kid somewhat from back in the day, and i was cool with him.  but when it comes to the SBL, that's a whole nuther story.
terry shernisky should recieve a very warm welcome the first week of the season.  i can't wait to see him come in for an assist when i'm down low.
FICTION.  ewww... no way.  even though i had no part in this, i guess i have a rivalry with mac and big whitey.  whatever, i'm down.
i can't wait to square off against the big and the white this season.  also, jon biddle vs. nate tomko is a rivalry that has been building since the first day of pre-draft, with stems reaching back to the close games last season between X and the SJ2B.
FACT.  i believe that nate will be a player of the year candidate.  i know it's a ridiculous idea, but i still think he can put up 7000 HR and RBI.  shelley, on the other hand, will not be a player of the year candidate.  there's a ton of talent in the sbl this year, and i could see a brandon mckendry or a ben smith edging her out for one of the final spots.
FACT. even if they lube each other up for pre-game, that ass-smacking connection they had last year made them the tremendous players they were.  the monster that was moroccovitch has been slain, and they will definately be hurting this season without each other.
definately a FACT.  big white is more SBL that 85% of the league.  his love for the game and the firsr burning inside will push him to the next level this year.  i just hope he doesn't try too hard to have a breakout season and doesn't crumble under the pressure of being a first-year captain.  if he stays cool, the SBL will see BMF whitey in his true form.  with jon o supporting him, i think he'll be just fine.  unless they play us, of course.  (rivalry?)
FACT.  i hope so, man.  i love those guys.  when it comes to crunch time, i'm positive the likes of billy, nate, rando and pj can all take thier games to the next level amd destroy the SBL competition sort of like the SJ2B.  it's not all about the stats on paper, it's about team connection, experience, and the sheer drive to become the SBL world champs that makes this team scary.
