SBL END OF SEASON REPORT CARDS |
TEAM DONKEY PUNCH roster: jared clayton pat lackey * jamie moroco justin shaffer jason biddle kurt rodemoyer elysa farrell jason creaser * all-star X poy finalist Y roy finalist record: 10-10 (4th in sbl) total runs scored: 244 / 12.2 (3rd) total runs allowed: 262 / 13.1 (6th) team leaders: games played: j moroco (18) homeruns: clayton (17) at-bats: j moroco (205) average: farrell (.627) runs batted in: clayton (64) assists: clayton (9) double plays: clayton (38) psyche-outs: ja biddle (5) dumb things: lackey/rodemoyer (3) this team was a major dissapointment. by winning consistently throughout the early stages of sbl 2004, often doing so without superstar clayton (who missed much of may and june due to injury and suspension), donkey punch set themselves up as a clear favorite to challenge the bluffs for the earnest. but something happened midway through the season. when the two powerhouses of the sbl finally squared off in week 6, the bluffs had their way with d.p. this team never recovered from the loss. not only did their confidence, and therefore level of play take a dive, but seemingly so did their interest. over the final weeks of the season, this team always came late, and seldom had enough players to field a team. by season's end, they were a shell of the once-great team donkey punch and stunbled into the playoffs a .500 club. this team prided itself on defense during the early season, but slipped all the way to 6th in the league by playoff time. with clayton and rodemoyer, it's possible d.p. had the greatest 1-2 defensive punch in the league. without, they had pat lackey and jamie moroco, neither of whom are known for their prowess in the paint. psyche-out machine jason biddle was the only puncher to register that stat frequently, but his attendence was shaky at best. offensively, this team could score with anyone. even without j.c. and "ignore all those lines between single and homer" rodemoyer, moroco and co. plated runs, tho they had to rely more on a small-ball style of play than the power game the two big guns brought to the table. unfortunately, scoring 15 runs isn't good if you give up 18, so this team gets a B for O and a D for D. this team was average at scrumming. rodemoyer never shyed away from contact, and lackey, creaser and shaffer all contributed when present. B for this bad boy. the playoffs were a tale of two teams for d.p. in week one, a clayton-led punch team annihilated jukebox and pouded xdx in the first game, then dropped 2 to the same smoker squad the next week without the second coming, who was sitting on a beach somewhere. A for week 1, F for week 2, C for the postseason. jamie moroco and pat lackey should be congratulated on holding this team together. both had tremendous seasons that can't be measured by any statistical category. attendance, attendance, attendance. elysa farrell, kurt rodemoyer, jason biddle, justin shaffer and jared clayton are all all-star calibur players. team donkey punch had the deepest roster in the league, but finished .500. something has to be said for that, too. final grade, C-. THE SERBIAN JEW DOUBLE BLUFFS roster: matt mcclelland *X shelley goodpastor *X jon olsavsky * aryn christman ben smith Y danielle hennon katie kelly Y nate tomko *X paul radkowski tony merolillo addam stainbrook * all-star X poy finalist Y roy finalist record: 19-1 (1st in sbl) total runs scored: 344 / 17.2 (1st) total runs allowed: 154 / 7.7 (1st) team leaders: games played: mcclelland (19) homeruns: tomko (40) at-bats: mcclelland (146) average: tomko (.707)) runs batted in: tomko (122) assists: tomko (13) double plays: tomko (58) psyche-outs: olsavsky (5) dumb things: tomko/hennon (4) wow. the serbian jew double bluffs, led by former rookie of the year matt mcclelland and loaded with 2 former player of the years, 3 all-stars, 2 sbl hall of famers and a rookie cast better than many sbl teams, totally blew away the sbl in the summer of '04 a week one loss to hoosier daddy, which now feels more like it happened a few summers ago, was all that stood in the way of the bluffs and perfection. and it should be noted that their only loss came without the services of tomko and goodpastor, both player of the year favorites, against mark tarkanick in his only appearance this season. along the path to an overall 21-1 record and sbl world championship, the bluffs dominated on both sides of the ball, had regular attendance, got everyone in the games as often as possible, and seemed to have fun doing it. defensively, tomko and olsavsky did what they've been doing for years, putting in double plays without much fanfare. with mcclelland often benching himself defensively in favor of the veterans his numbers suffered, but it was that type of unselfish play that personified the bluffs all season. the number one defense in the league also featured appearances by ben smith, katie kelly, shelly goodpastor, addam stainbrook, and even danielle hennon. coercing psyche-outs was rarely an issue, as any team with jon olsavsky can attest to. A- for that category. offensively....yeah. even better. the bluffs shattered records left and right: homeruns per game, homeruns per season, runs per game, runs per season, individual homers per game, individual rbi per game, all-star selections; and had the top 3 averages in the league in tomko, goodpastor and mcclelland, and 6 of the top 13 overall. A+ for that guy. as if their ball-busting defense and torrid shooting weren't enough, the sj2b were also the top scrummers. it wasn't until week 9, in a bluffs vs. sbl scrum, that they finally lost one. mcclelland and tomko met in the finals of the sbl scrum tourney, and olsavsky probably would have made it there had he not lost to mac in the semis. big A+ to the greatest scrum team ever. in the playoffs, the bluffs slip to a B+ for losing the first 2 innings of the first game of the championship and failing to 12-run hoosier daddy in two tries. the scrubs. honeslty, there were no kinks in the bluffs armor. mcclelland earned himself a player of the year trophy by playing one hell of a season in minimal time. tomko dominated, olsavsky accepted the role as a supporting castmember for the first time all season, and shelly put up the best season she ever has, and that's wicked good. and those are just the starters... final grade: A TEAM AWARDS: MVP- NATE TOMKO (20-0 with tomko) LVP- KARA DOLCI (where was the 3rd member of the hot high school trifecta?)
