the shenangahela baseketball league 2005: unless bush send us to the desert |
PREDRAFT ACQUISITIONS dennis lackey, after leading most of the sbl to belive he was in pursuit of a potential psyche-out dream team consisting of himself and jon olsavsky, turned more than one head when he made the announcement sunday night he had reached a deal with relative unknown terry shernisky. shernisky, who has been described as "jon biddle with a better shot", was also being pursued by shelley goodpastor at the time. miss goodpastor, however, had already notched a deal with dank elly, and lackey was able to swing in and nab the coveted free agent before the draft.(2/27) billy weisberg won the nat tokmo sweepstakes, as many had assumed he would all along. word came from the sbl offices immediatley after lackey's announcement, raising speculation that tomko had been holding out for an offer from the featherhaired one, a propositon that would never come. the tomko/weisberg tandem finally gives billy a realistic shot at his first sbl world title, and will most likely become the greatest double play tandem the league has ever seen.(2/27) with olsavsky being snubbed for a rookie and tomko spurning him to play for weisberg, ben elliott found a reasonable solution to everyone's problems when he made mr. olsavsky the final predraft acquisition. the commanding presence of the hall of famer on both sides of the ball should be exactly what ben, whose career thus far has been dampened by both injury and captains who think to highly of their opwn abilities, needs most. (2/27) bryan frankovich, the 6'3 phenom and 2-time all-star, landed himself the biggest prize in the predraft acquisition period thus far with his inking of former player of the year matt mcclelland. youngster frankovich now has himself one of the greatest all-around players in the league. mcclelland should shoot around .600 for the year, and his physical presence under the backboard and in the scrums is something the wafelike frankovich is certainly lacking. mac, in return, has all but ensured himself that he'll be on his third title contender in as many seasons, and put himself in line to become the first player ever to repeat as a world champion. (2/26) ben smith became the third captain to ink a player pre-draft with the recent addition of reigning all-star most valuable player mikey moroco to his squad. the signing of moroco gives the longball-lovin' smith a nice setup man, and should also greatly increase his teams appeal in the orient. (2/23) in a move that surely turned some heads, shelley goodpastor made the second acquisition of the preseason when, at 10:00pm e.s.t. on monday the 21st of february, she reached a 2005 contract agreement with nate tomko. no wait, i'm just fucking with you. shelley went with former xdeathx-er dank elly, who should see an astronomical rise in rbi batting behind miss goodpastor. (2/21) jon biddle, within 2 minutes of receiving the go-ahead from the league, announced he has acquired the rights to brandon mckendry. now that the seal has been broken, prepare for more monumental announcements as the 2005 teams take shape. 2/20) |
