PLAYOFFS, ROUND 2 JULY 27, 2003 AUSCHWITZ GARDENS MILF HUNTERS/WEENISES STRIKE BACK game 1: WEENISES 22 MILF HUNTERS 4 8 INNINGS following a 20 minute rain delay, round 2 of the 2003 playoffs kicked off with the second-seeded milf hunters taking on the 6th seed weenises. as daylite began to fade and the playoffs expanded into their 6th hour, the hunters took an early 2-0 lead thanks to kip corbett's rbi double in the bottom of the first, then mark tarkanick's solo homer an inning later. the weenises countered in the bottom of the fourth on the strength of 2 brian frankovich hits, crossing the plater 4 times and taking the momentum from the hunters. the game remained close thru the end of the fifth, as neither team could bring home a run. the weenises were the first to break out of their mid-inning slump thanks to a traditional frankovich grand slam, a shot that broke the hunters backs. two innings later, a bill weisberg grand slam highlited an 11-run eighth, and within 5 minutes, a close game had become a one-sided blowout. frankovich finished with 10 hits in 11 at-bats, 3 homers and 8 rbi. weisberg also had 10 hits in 11 attempts, plus a homer, 9 rbi and 3 double plays. pat lackey contributed 2 double plays and 4 runs batted in. the milf hunters were temporarily porked with joy as steve mentrek made his way into auschwitz gardens, but their emotions were quickly slapped in the other direction as they realized he was only there to score some smoke. and sam lynn wasn't there either, but i think she was at dairy queen. anyway, kip corbett led his team with a homer and 3 rbi from a 5 of 8 plate performance. then vowed his team would win the next game. game 2: MILF HUNTERS 10 WEENISES 14 boy was kip wrong. while his team played much better (mark tarkanick double his prior game hit total... with TWO HITS) kip's turned out to be quite non-prophetic as his number 2 hunters became the highest seed ever to lose a playoff series. on the bright side, they didn't hold that dubious record for very long. as before, the weenises found themselves in a serious hole early, down 5-0 heading into the bottom of the second. and once again, the young (except billy) and resurgent (except dennis lackey) weenises were able to scratcg, claw and tickle their way out of the defecit. the tandem/marriage of mike moroco and brian frankovich proved to be the battery, each collecting 6 hits and a homer while driving in 10 of their team's 14 runs. defensively, bill weisberg and pat lackey combined for 6 double plays. a fantastic bill weisberg double play in the top of the ninth all but sealed the deal for his team, and the play was even more spectacular as the former mvp did it while wearing a jay betts costume. for the displeased hunters, kip corbett couldn't do it on his own. but he almost did, with a 6 for 12, 2 homer, 8 rbi performance, including a first-inning big salami. mark satanic tipped in 4 double plays to aid his team defensively. after the game, tark wept and steve probably got high.
